What it is though, is the thoughts of someone who lives in an apartment block and wanted something small to be able to practice his new guitar with...and for that it is brilliant! I looked at a few different options when considering this (Marshall MS2, Orange Micro Crush etc.) but this thing kept on coming out the favourite in all the comparisons so I took the plunge and ordered one. So, first things first. The amp is tiny! So much so that I was a little concerned that it wouldn't be able to perform particularly well in anything other than the smallest of rooms. This was very quickly negated when I plugged it into the guitar for the first time. The sound was big, it was clean and it was all coming from this tiny little box sat on my bookshelf. Being entirely new to the guitar scene I haven't had a chance to test out the extra features as much as I would like to be able to, but it comes with a clean and overdrive channel, tape delay, headphone out and a 3.5mm in. The latter two of these have been incredibly useful for me as I am able to use my headphones when my neighbours are in and being able to play the "learn to play" backing tracks through the amp as well makes practicing very convenient! It comes with 6 AA batteries and has the option of including a separate charger (sold separately). The batteries supposedly last a good long while and will be replaced with rechargeables once they eventually die. I recently took this with me on a weekend away where one of my friends, who has played guitar for over 30 years, was left utterly speechless by how impressive this device was. I originally thought that a micro-amp would be a short-lived purchase and that I would be upgrading to something larger fairly quickly. However, after listening to this thing in action, I don't think this will be getting replaced for a LONG while. And even when I do want to up the performance, I only need to purchase the cab extension for it to double the wattage. If you are just starting out with electric guitar or if you live in a place that doesn't lend itself well to ridiculous amounts of noise, then this little amp is a must-buy. Review: Nice smooth tone for such a small amp - Nice smooth tone for such a small amp, and a loooot of sound out of it. Very versatile room practise amp. Plastic, but neat build and well finished. You expect small, but when I opened the box it was still a surprise how compact it is. Batteries are included, which was nice. The gain, volume, tone, EQ and Delay buttons play tight and smooth. The clean tones are very nice and stay clean at pretty high volume. The clean channel sounds better than the overdrive. Set the clean tone channel to mid/high gain and it renders a nice bluesy crunchy sound. The delay is a smart addition, takes the dryness out of the sound: set it at high frequency, and you get a practise substitute for reverb. The Fly 3 also makes a fine desk speaker for your mp3/computer. The mp3 playback volume is not affected by the volume switch, though. I just wish there was a volume switch for the mp3 input. Very good amp for my purpose (travel), I can play quite a while without getting bored by the sound. This is not a toy, although it will fit in a toiletry bag, together with the Black Star 311739 Fly 3 Power Supply (which I also bought: It's fine but quite overpriced). The fly 3 runs on 6volts /positive tip . When you buy the fly on amazon, the planet waves adaptor is suggested . My friend bought the fly to his son and pluged it on a 9 volts adapter...... he blew the amp . You may pay a little more but buy the right adapter, it works well and saves batteries **Q: Why is there what appears to be an Ethernet connector just above the power adapter plug?** A: Yes, for the extension cabinet, which expands this from 3w to 6w. The 3-pack is a good deal, because a) you get better volume but mainly because b) it includes the power supply, which means that c) the extension cabinet is virtually free. **Q: does it come with a cable** A: The package I received was the amp only. The instrument cable and power supply I had to purchase separately. I only used it on battery power, and works great. Battery life is long, I'd say good 50 hours, although your mileage may vary depending on the batteries you use.
