Dyson DYNDC34 Handheld Vacuum Cleaner Grey and Yellow

I saw this Dyson cleaner advertised on television, and I was sceptical at first. But then I decided I would give it a try. After all I had enough gift cards to purchase it without it costing me any money!! So I sent for it. Only thing I wish for, is that I had discovered it much earlier, and been able to use a long time before I actually tried it. It is perfect for what I need it for. It is good value for money, and it is very useful. It is a strong sturdy small vacuum cleaner.....easy to use, easy to see when full, and easy to empty. A thouroughly good vacuum that does exactly what it should....clean!!! I love it , and it isn't heavy for this 68 year old woman to use. Wish I had bought it sooner, I love it.

We had one of the older models and when it stopped working my husband and I immediately ordered this replacement. The prospect of being without one of these was too unthinkable for both of us! It has so many uses and the latest one has a longer battery life between charges than the old one, so even better. It slides into awkward corners that the attachments on my upright cleaner fail to reach, you can even catch flies with it! It's brilliant for picking up spiders and if you switch off immediately they survive so you can release them in the garden. It's powerful and convenient for cleaning the car. Just follow the instructions to rinse the filter every month. I didn't do it with my first one and that's probably why it stopped working.

I bought this refurbished Dyson DC34 for nearly £150 around 3 months ago, in autumn 2018, and it came without any warranty. It stopped working properly after a first charge finished. I tried to return it to the seller but in vain. This Dyson kept cutting off and I had to keep cleaning it's filters and inside it all the time. Now it seems like there is no charge in the battery and whether it is a problem with a battery or a charger it is not clear. No serial number on this Dyson. I phoned the DYSON help line but they could not help. they told me that a new battery for it would cost me £60 and a new charger £30 = £90. So next time I will never trust a refurbished once to buy from these sellers.

We've had the DC34 a couple of years and when it works there's no doubt it's a great gadget. Assuming your fingers are strong enough to sustain pressing the on-button for prolonged amounts of time - and you do need a fair amount of hand-strength for this, I find you can vacuum a room in about the same amount - or even less - time that it'd take with a conventional vacuum cleaner. The suction is excellent and I find the vacuum very convenient to use. BUT. This particular model has some serious design flaws. Our first battery pack failed about 6 months in when the machine was still under warranty and was replaced. Incidentally I highly recommend the Dyson helpline staff who really are helpful - but since then the power has been intermittently cutting out to the extent that it's now unusable as it'll stay on for only about 4 seconds max. We were enquiring about new battery packs / chargers to try and sort the problem but have been told that the issue is with the connection to the battery pack, which in these 'earlier version' D34s tends to come loose. This can't be remedied without our purchasing an entirely new handset - effectively the main part of what you think of as being 'your Dyson' - at a cost of about £70. The information we were given is that there are 2 versions of the DC34. The older type 'A' that we've got can be identified because it has a grey button with a downward-pointing arrow positioned just above the input where you plug the wire in for recharging. These type A DC34s are subject to the problem of the battery pack coming loose. In the newer 'B' type DC34, instead of the grey button, there's a screw to hold the battery pack in place more securely. These type B DC34s apparently aren't so prone to problems as the older version. I do feel a bit let-down by the Dyson company, given it's a 'premium'-type brand that does sell - let's be frank - very expensive products. This is because they've sold me a vacuum cleaner with design-flaw that's now known about and acknowledged - a fault that's very predictably occurred on my machine, but now it's out of warranty, they aren't prepared to remedy it. I think if a product has a known design flaw any reputable manufacturer should feel duty-bound to carry out a product-recall to fix the problem. Dyson haven't done this. They've updated the model and are happy to sell you a new handset, but owners of the troublesome old machine are on their own as far as fixing it goes. On the other hand, with what I now know, actually I can get my handheld Dyson to work for as long as I want it to by manually pushing the battery pack into place and holding it there while the vacuum is in use. That'll act as a stop-gap until I can justify spending the £200-odd I'll need to purchase a DC58, the latest handheld being marketed at this point by Dyson, that I've been advised (by Dyson!) has no known design flaws to date.

We have recently moved into a three story house and the worst part about vacuuming is doing the stairs, with so many stairs I knew a hand held vacuum would be the solution. I choose Dyson because we have had an upright Dyson for about 10 years now and the suction is still really good (if you keep up to cleaning the filters). Upon receiving this DC34 I found it well packaged with a modest number of accessories, the unit itself is very lightweight, almost like a child's toy. The suction power is nowhere near that of my upright mains powered Dyson however it does do the job required well and it is quick and easy to empty. I particularly like the main attachment that offers duel function (much better than having two separate attachments). Not only is it perfect for the stairs but I've also found it ideal for light fittings, cob webbed room corners and crumbs in the kitchen. The battery soon runs out if you get carried away. Since buying the DC34 I quickly realised that I would need a wall mounting bracket that would allow me to store it neatly and also charge at the same time. More than ideal for the job but expensive for what it is and with the price tag of the DC34 I would really have expected this to come for free. In summary the let downs of this product are the cost of the unit and accessories, the battery life and the limited suction power. However having said that in use there are many other features that redeem it and make it worth the 4 stars I have given.
