Review: Keyhole surgery for strawberries :-) - I Love this!! My eight year old would eat two punnets of strawberries a day if I let him, but he's not so keen on the 'green bits' and since Mum here was born with only one hand, prizing them out the usual way was just too fiddly for me. So I got the fun job of slicing the whole top off the strawberry, which was rather messy as the poor strawberries bled everywhere. Now I just steady the strawberry with my stump, press the button, plunge, release, twist ...and voila! 'Green bits' removed with almost surgical precision, and with a lot less blood loss! It is strangely satisfying too... the plunge of the sharp, shiny metal, the gentle resistance and then the yielding, of the firm, pink-tinged flesh... but, perhaps that's just my inner psychopath coming out. Ahem.. I can happily go through a punnet in less time and with less mess than the open-surgery method, and even the eight-year-old likes to have a go, so smiles all round. I can even take the 'funny bit' off the top of grapes (to normal, non-eight year old people, this is just the hole where the stalk has been) IF i'm feeling particularly affectionate towards my rather strange and overly picky offspring. Go one, get one. Its useful...and fun!

**Q: From one photo of this, it looks as if there is a metal pin through it, but from a different perspective, it looks plastic and green in colour. Why ?**
A: The bottom piece that pierces the strawberry is metal but the button on top is green and the main body is red. I suppose its do it looks like a strawberry.

**Q: how come this huller, which looks esactely the same of the Chef'n Strawberry Huller Stem Gem, costs less? is it a chepe**
A: I bought mine last summer and was so,pleased with it that I bought several ore to give a gifts for Christmas.Strawberries these day are much tougher than ones grown outside and the centre is much harder to remove but this does it fine.  Only thing is the little yellow /green top on the plunger comes off but is easily reinserted. I love mine.

If you look around Amazon you can find all manner of kitchen gadgets of varying usefulness. Maybe its just me, but I've never found a banana particularly difficult to slice and don't do it often enough to merit a specific tool for the job (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kitchen-Craft-KCBANSLICE-Banana-Slicer/dp/B003CLFC98/ref=sr_1_1?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1439278538&sr=1-1&keywords=banana+slicer). I'm also capable of biting a banana, so often I'll completely forgo the slicing and go straight to eating. That might give you an indication of how recalcitrant I can be. I Love this!! My eight year old would eat two punnets of strawberries a day if I let him, but he's not so keen on the 'green bits' and since Mum here was born with only one hand, prizing them out the usual way was just too fiddly for me.
