VegTrug1m Small Wood Seater - Natural

These are great. Very nice and sturdy, and easy to assemble with the same type of screws used throughout the build and the only other fixings being the nuts and bolts used to connect the legs together. These are just the job for growing year round close to the house, and for adding sandy/compost based beds to grow crops that don't fare well in our heavy clay soil. Decent amount of growing space, and the design allows for deeper rooted plants to grow in the centre of the trugs with smaller, leafy, shallower crops around the edges - useful too for companion planting. The beds are made from treated softwood, and there is a bit of a smell from the treatment when you first get them out of the box. We've had several of these in place for just over a year and they're still looking good. Height is perfect for adults and older children.

I like the look of these , it is very eyecatching and attractive to use , especially to children . I was taken aback on unpacking to see big gaps in the slatted sides but these are filled in by the liner. There is not enough info in the instructions to accurately place the ends.. took a while but it looks fine . The liner seems a little big , the overlapping part is supposed to be tucked back over the soil but this would smother my seedlings.On the plus side the wood smells lovely , and the wood is smooth finished.. a desirable,sturdy quality piece of garden kit already getting positive comments . Watering this morning no snails have found it , very orderly and manageable .. big smile :)The 1m size held 4 bags compost and 4 seed trays of seedlings , we are not anticipating a large crop but an attractive size for a kids project .Thought the price was reasonable for the quality looks sturdy and durable.

Like other reviewers, I had a problem fitting the side panels. I think the long side pieces (the one with the word VegTrug on and the opposite one) were a few millimetres too long, which meant that the fit between them and the side panels wasn't snug. Some screws therefore had to bridge a gap, although there are enough screws to make the structure stable despite this. It took me, a female with no DIY experience, working on my own, just under 2 hours to assemble. I haven't filled my VegTrug with compost yet - will be doing that in the next few days - but I've applied a silicone sealant around the black 'shoes' in an attempt to avoid water collecting inside the feet and rotting the wood (an idea I got from another review elsewhere) and I've also applied anti-slug tape to all the legs. Supposedly, slugs are not a problem because of the height but they definitely do climb and I'd rather add a deterrent before I start planting.

Growing salad crops . Perfect to save the back. Probably worth buying the canopy at the same time.

I ordered both a 1M and a 2M VegTrug to put down the side of my house, I was hoping to extend the planting area I have for growing Salad, Vegetables and some Chilli's.The VegTrugs are really easy to assemble, especially when using an electric screwdriver. They hold a LOT of solid, so be prepared to do some serious digging or stocking up from discounted compost bags from your garden centre.Either way, a really nice item. The Value for money is 4 Stars as this unit was not treated, so I had to paint it before it was filled and planted out.

I like this alot .the reason for only 4 stars is the caps on the end of the wooden legs they are just pushed on and will let water in eventually cause rot ...heat shrunk plastic would be great ....i used a quality black silicone and sealed in and around the legs .But I did it after not knowing .so do this before assembly ...also,watch video ..and leave the nuts lose until all is assembled .aids alignment at the top ......

This looks nice when eventually put together. Instructions included and company web site, no help. Husband got for his birthday and had to look up on you tube a different model to help with building. There were no holes so he had to drill some and took a while to assemble.For the price, I was surprised you had to assemble? Still he's now happy with it and was a quick delivery. For assembly troubles, one less star.

Spent 1.5 hours putting this together. The picture on the box doesn't match the pictures on the instructions. I am normally good at self-assembly items but despaired with this. However, when I finally figured it out (using my instincts rather than the instructions) it is a really sturdy product and looks great. I am glad I bought it but not glad about the waste of my afternoon.
