Sony MDR-EX650AP Earphone with Brass Housing,Microphone and Control - Black

I'm writing this review as I am about to buy these earphones for the second time, as one of my rabbits chewed through the wire on my previous set (don't worry, I've not going to give them a one-star review for that, as some Amazon reviewers would). I rarely write reviews, as I'm exceedingly lazy, but thought this product truly deserves it. There's a very good reason I'm buying the exact same earphones again, and that is that they are, in my opinion, the best earphones you can get for the price. Since it's a while since I bought my original pair I did a bit of research, and I still stick by that opinion. First up, the main thing most people are interested in - sound quality. It is simply amazing for earphones at this price. The dynamics are great, with rich warm bass all the way through to crisp highs. If I find a new song/album that I really get into, I make a point of lying in bed and listening to it on these bad boys. The same goes for long-beloved music - I notice new things in albums I thought I knew by heart. This is true when listening on my now-decrepit iPod Nano, and even more so when I plug them into my hi-fi amplifier in the living room. I also sometimes use them in this configuration when playing my PS4, and this gives a level of immersion I thought only possible with over-ear headphones (incidentally, this is how my rabbit got at them - I was sitting on the floor, very much immersed, and the wire was dangling at perfect rabbit head-height). Second of all - durability. I have put these headphones through the wash. Twice. They are not advertised as washproof, but to my amazement they worked perfectly afterwards. And were lovely and clean. I wouldn't recommend it though, it was an accident both times - I may be exceedingly lazy, but I'm not a complete idiot. Looking back on my order history, I see I ordered my original pair in August 2015. So they were working as good as new, despite four years of heavy use and two accidental wash cycles, right up until the moment The Unstoppable Destructo-Bunny sank her teeth into them (the wee cow also managed to chew through three digital aerial cables until I worked out an impenetrable way to protect the back of the TV). I have also bought my mother a pair of these as a present, and my brother bought a pair on my recommendation - both of them were equally impressed with their performance and robustness. So, in summary, if you are looking for a £60-or-less pair of earphones that have fantastic sound and will last, these can't be beat. In fact, I don't think any sub-£100 earphones can beat them. Also, if you get rabbits as pets, don't let them near any wires even for a second.

So I had these for over a year now. They are still going strong. I brought these because of the reviews and they were on offer, I manage to get 2 pairs because I asked for these for secret santa and when they were on offer I brought them too because I didn't know if santa would get me it. Anyhow the 2nd pair is still sealed and boxed. The first pair I got are still going strong, they are my go to pair of headphones if i am going for a walk the kids to school, gym or just using at work. I have been using them everyday for the past year. The only times I don't use them is when I am at home because I use on ear/over the ear headphones which do sound better. First impressions was good, they sounded alot better than I thought they would. What surprised me about them was the amount of bass in them, I thought in ear headphones couldn't produce anywhere near the quality sound that over the ear headphones produces, with these headphones I was wrong. These headphones sound amazing. Comparing to the usual standard headphones you get in phones, ie the white apple ones, or the samsung ones you get with the phones. There is no comparisons, these are alot better than those, If i use them headphones you get with phones now, I just don't enjoy the music. With these headphones I can enjoy the sound and also don't look like a complete fool when walking about. (use to wear over the ear headphones whiles walking the kids to school.) The only disappointing thing about these headphones is the wires, they get tangled easily and both sizes are the same length, one side isn't shorter than the other side as usually I can put one side of cable around my head and connect to ear but these you cant. For in ear headphones I cant recommend these enough, amazing sound. I have yet to hear anything better regarding in ear headphones, I have tried the bose ones but they don't sound as good as theses. These are relatively cheap, sound good, looks good and are practical for walking in public. :) Great purchase

Okay, I feel like I can chime in here. I bought these for £25 late 2016 which is what I feel they are worth. They lasted about 2.5 years of normal use before experiencing cable issues. Recently replaced with SoundMAGIC E80 earphones, might be useful to provide some comparison here since they are now a similar price. First off, the E80 isn't perfect and I bought them without trying them. There are elements from the EX650 I do miss. Earphone bro style rundown: E80 differences (not yet burned in, if that's a thing with them): - Wider soundstage - More separation - More detail - Less emphasis on vocals seemingly (negative) - Best listened to in a quiet room (am I using the wrong tips?). Details get drowned out in busy environments. EX650: - A fuller, more focused sound - Bit bass heavy, at least initially. Maybe I got used to them / tried different tips. I do feel like I would have liked to raise the volume sometimes but the bass levels were holding me back. - Soundstage okay, surprised to read everyone thinks it's so wide. It's not super wide, but that's not a bad thing. Like I mentioned, they deliver a more focused sound that seems a bit more in front of you. - Good for vocals. Combined with the above point and the general warmth I felt it was quite nice listening to jazz and soul music. Rock and electronic music was also alright. - Better earphones for wearing outdoors / with background noise. The E80 seems to be a bit frail in this regard and some sound detail gets drowned out. End points, a fun full sounding earphone which are maybe a bit bass heavy. Liked it for vocals. Worth it at a certain price point. There are lots of lesser known highly regarded earphones at this price range which should probably be considered but it's impossible to try them.

Okay so I've owed many in ears the past year. From Sennheiser to Bose to Audio Technica (the makers of the M40x over ears, my personal favourite headphones) and honestly have yet to find the perfect in ears for me. These are about as close as I'm gonna get. At least without spending a tonne of money and risking build quality (in my opinion the Beoplay H3 2nd gen and Sony XBA H1 might be better but the build of the Sony and price of the Beoplay won't allow me to take that risk). The packaging is pleasant, shows the earbuds in a transparent window, has the accessories stored under the card material used to wrap the headphones into their display. The pouch is a coin purse style where you push at the ends and the sides pop open. And WHY has noone else done this?! It actually works perfectly and is the only pouch I ever want to use. The headphones themselves feel premium. The materials used are good quality and the cable doesn't like tangling (you can get it to but it really takes some doing). They fit snugly in the ears with the beautiful hybrid silicone tips which I even prefer over comply foam tips. The profile is just about negative. They won't stick out further than your outer ear. They come with a one button remote and mic which also helps. And the sound. I don't think it's entirely flat. But it certainly doesn't detriment it. They sound fun, lively, and have a decent thump to them, which on an S7 Edge's crappy DAC is a wonder. They have a tiny bit of soundstage, nothing special, but the clarity is just about there. I listen to a lot of heavy, layered music where distinguishing the vocals over a mash of guitars and drums has proven a task too hard for Momentum in ears, so the fact these have a good amount of presence in that range, even though I still believe the mids are recessed a little, is great. These are worth their asking price. The £60 RRP I believe is right. So the fact I got them at £25 is kind of a steal I'd say. They fit any genre, they make you want to listen to them, and then putting them away, you get a genius pouch to keep them in. Honestly, I'm impressed. Sony just don't seem to do bad headphones I guess.

I would like to preface this review by explicitly noting that I am by no means an audiophile of any sort so do not expect an in-depth review of how well the earphones perform technically. That being said, I can provide a reliable, neutral consumer verdict for those less in-the-know. I bought these earphones for two reasons: one, my old pair (OnePlus Icons) that I won in a competition had finally broke after a year of heavy use and I wanted a new pair that was of more robust build quality and reliability (I have tried many other cheaper brands such as Betron and have had no luck); and two, at the time I bought them, they were priced at £25 down from £60 - a >50% price reduction. I thought it would be a worth a go, plus with Sony you know you'll get some decent customer support if you need it. The earphones come packaged in a well-designed box with all the technical information that makes no sense to me. It comes with four pairs of differently sized earbuds (nice colour-coded on the inside to tell you which are pairs - a nice touch), a small fabric pouch, a cable tie widget, and the earphones themselves (plus all the usual paperwork). The earphones fit really nicely into my ear canals and block around a lot of external noise. The sound is very good quality (I normally listen to Spotify Premium high-quality setting songs) and I am inclined to say it is the best sound quality I have had in any pair of earphones I have owned. I listen to a lot of indie/acoustic songs (Jake Bugg, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Mumford and Sons etc) and the Sony's really give a good sense of realism from the song. I would like to go into bass and trebles etc but I don't really understand these concepts myself. The cable is plastic (although feels slightly "fibrey") and seldom tangles. A little dongle allows shorting at the fork of the earphones. The inclusion of a microphone with a one-button system works well - the microphone quality is good and more than capable of dealing with phone calls. I tested the button on my Android phone (OnePlus X) and that works perfectly too.The jack is L-shaped which to some is preferable (including myself). This is the most I have spent on any pair of earphones but I am glad that I have. The quality is miles ahead of any other products I have used, and from a reputable brand. Of course, I have no other reference to other earphones in a similar price range (although the OnePlus Icons are worth £40, I received them for free so I cannot honestly comment on value for money). Regarding the Sony MDR-EX650EP earphones, I would say go for it if you want to try your hand (or... ahem... ears) at some really high quality sound at a price that doesn't exactly break the bank.

The sound is OK quality, not mind blowing but pretty good. The main issue I have is that after 5-6 months they broke very quickly, making crackling noises and the microphone has stopped working entirely. They also tangle incredibly easily, more than any other pair of earphones I've ever had. A replacement was issued by Amazon very speedily, though.

These are a really well made earphone with a very wide soundstage. The sound is slightly warm but detailed with the ability to reproduce sub bass notes (bass pedals synths etc.) with clarity as long as you drive the 'phones with medium to high volume. I found that I needed to tweak the bass up via EQ on tracks that I was playing at low volume.Initially the 'phones sounded a bit bright with too much treble, but they need to 'burn in' and after two days this had gone. Plus points are a tangle free and 'quiet' cable that has a winder so you can have the cable long and the unit in a trouser pocket, or very short - taking up the slack when using in a shirt pocket. The remote works with iPod by default and if you download the App you have the same functionality on Android. You can pause skip tracks, go back a track and take/make calls but you cannot put volume up or down. Comfortable and comes with a very handy and neat small bag. Be aware that, according to YouTube, there have been fakes available in the past.Best buy from Amazon. These phones were £60 in 2014 when they won a What Hi Fi Award for best product. I had E10's 3 years ago - couldn't get a good fit, overall I think these are better, although E10's have been updated since then. I have had a number of good headphones, Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic and Bose in the £130-£330 range - these are really excellent for £41.

Now then, as a 54 year old male, not an audiophile, but I do like my music… middle of the road stuff; bit of swing and modern Jazz, a bit of Whitney and Bublé along with some modern quality stuff like Ella Henderson; Take That (did I really admit to that?) and Faith Hill, ELO and loads of other similar stuff..... Confessions out of the way then, I teamed these Sony MDR-EX650AP Earphones with Brass Housings with my new Fiio X1 ii (2nd Gen at 99 quid) having tried some other IEM’s including my already owned Sennheiser CX 300 II (a bit too much bass for quality listening, other that in busy outdoors.. I do like them mind!) and some others at about 20 quid or less (Granvela and Betrons… which I like too in certain circumstances). But then I came across the Sony MDR-EX650AP at £24.99 here and I thought I’d give them a try. So a bit of research revealed that they did rather well on the What Hi*Fi ratings achieving product of the year in 2014 in their category. Made in Brass (yes brass) housings with some ways of controlling Apple phones and Samsung ones too; but I want them for music!, the 12mm drivers and brass housings and indeed Bass pressure release sort of made me want them as did the What Hi*Fi (2014) summary of ‘Flaws? There really aren’t any. For fit, function and sonic form the MDR-EX650s are nearly faultless for the money.’ The close of this deal to buy then was the price (RRP £60, with Richer Sounds (2016 DEC) at £49) but Amazon here at 24.99 (same as Currys) so I bought them. Arrived promptly in the morning as (usually) normal (with my Prime… no I do not work for Amazon!), plugged in to my recently purchased entry level HiRes Fiio X1ii (I do have the X3ii that works as my HIFi music collection connected to the home HIFi…. Just great via Coax if you are interested; 2000 CD’s in one place at HIRes quality…. No I don’t work for Fiio either!) So the Sony MDR-EX650AP ear phones (In ear monitors) are BRILLIANT, the socks are knocked off every other ear phones I own and a couple of over ear headphones too. They appear perfectly matched to the Fiio X1ii in ohms and have a particularly high sensitivity level that brings the quality of sound from the X1ii that it deserves. All in all, and for me at least a really good match up of HiRes player and quality earphones; albeit at a HiRes entry level… but a total price of £125 for the X1ii (£99) and Sony MDR-EX650AP (24.99), makes for a happy middle aged man playing his favourite tunes with better HiFi quality than I have ever been used to on a portable level. I researched the Momentums and indeed the Soundmagic E10’s, but the Sony MDR-EX650AP won me over as better balanced bass over the former and they beat the E10’s in 2014 in sound quality according to What HiFi and Stuff although the E10c’s appear to control your phone well….. I just answer mine! Addendum: I have tried these with my Samsung phone and Fiio X3ii, the former does not do justice to them, the later brings them out. So these are FABULOUS quality ear phones!, but to get the best out of them they need to be hooked to a quality source, they will do the best they can for phones (definitely better than most) but if you really want them to perform then you should give them a good sound source. These are stunning ear phones if you have a source that can deliver quality instrumentation, otherwise they will deliver the very best sound that your source can provide. Don’t judge them on the quality of your (phone) sound source since they deal very well with HiRes. ******** UPDATE: 2018 ******** So, I raved about these and a year later what do I think having used them and indeed having bought some others (Sennheiser Momentums – Kefs and a variety of others). I use these and others with my various players, my little and fab – not bothered if I lose.. Hidizs AP60, my work Fiio X1ii, home Fiio X3ii for its coax out, and Pioneer XDP-30r as my newest addition. (each and all HiRes but not overboard - I m no audiophile - just like a quality player). So, do the Sennheiser Momentums that I bought since reviews say they are slightly better actually do better, are the Kefs or others below 100 quid better than these Sony MDR-EX650AP? In my humble view… the simple answer is NO! These for me are easily the best. Better build, better balance and better sound than anything at this price point. Pair them with a Fiio amp like the fairly cheap E11 for instance (other amps are available of course) and you will really enjoy these IEMs. I can’t find anything under £200 to match these. Go figure! Sometimes a manufacturer just gets it right!, for me, these are just that from Sony. There is a reason that these IEMs have maintained their price. Don’t confuse these with the EX450’s though, these are the MDR-EX650AP and are in my view just glorious.

Sono rimasto colpito da queste cuffie, veramente ben realizzate, non sono riuscito a trovargli difetti neanche dopo un anno che le uso. In confezione si trova una comodissima pochette in cui riporle (dopo un anno sta iniziando a perdere dei peletti a causa del continuo sfregamento con il tessuto della tasca dello zaino) ed un supporto gommato per avvolgere parte del cavo se è troppo lungo o scomodo quando siete in giro. Il cavo è inoltre anti-groviglio intrecciato ed effettivamente a me non si sono quasi mai aggrovigliati. Il telecomando delle cuffie è fatto bene ma purtroppo non consente la regolazione del volume (ma con un doppio click consente di passare al brano successivo, in base al vostro smartphone ovviamente). L'attacco jack è placcato in oro, sarebbe veramente stato un tocco di classe se il logo Sony che copre il jack fosse stato in alluminio o comunque in qualche metallo ma va beh, poco importa, è una finezza. Le cuffie sono in metallo, sono abbastanza pesanti e si sente che sono di qualità e belle robuste. Non sono assolutamente fastidiose da indossare e sono veramente bellissime. Hanno 3 paia di gommini in confezione per adattarle alle proprie orecchie. Parlando di qualità del suono, la parte più importante ovviamente, il suono è veramente ben bilanciato e non enfatizza né bassi né alti. È molto pulito e preciso, per quel che le ho pagate, circa 40€, sono perfette (ma anche il loro prezzo di listino è azzeccato secondo me). Il volume raggiungibile è molto elevato, ai massimi livelli è veramente troppo forte e difficilmente lo userete... Anche perchè all'80% inizia a distorcere ed a gracchiare, non esageratamente se non arrivate al 100% ovviamente. Importantissimo in questi auricolari è il rodaggio. Usate da nuove il suono sembra scadente e con un volume massimo non entusiasmante ma date il tempo alle cuffie di rodarsi ed il suono cambierà totalmente (mi ha stupito quanto il rodaggio potesse fare una differenza così enorme). Il range di frequenze inoltre è molto ampio (5-28.000 Hz) Consiglio la versione argento perchè quella oro è in ottone e con il tempo si ossida. Inoltre consiglio di investire qualcosina in più per queste 650 che risparmiare e prendere le 450. Per poco di più avrete infatti un suono più pulito soprattutto sugli alti.

Die Tonqualität ist für diese Preisklasse voll OK, kenn Teureres das schlechter klingt. Ergänzen meinen Sony NWA 45 sehr gut für unterwegs. Stöpsel sitzen perfekt und sicher, wer möchte auch beim trainieren. Leider ist die Fernbedienung am hauseigenen Sony Walkman nicht nutzbar! Kabel ist geschmeidig und überträgt keine Reib-Geräusche, verwurstelt aber leicht und neigt zur Knotenbildung. Für den aktuellen Preis von ca 35 € gute Preis/Leistung!

Zapomnij o SoundMagic E11C. Zapomnij o Shure Aonic 3. Zapomnij o Klipsch T5M Wired. Sony EX650AP "zjada je" natychmiast. Szeroka scena, bardzo precyzyjna i szczegółowa góra (jest tak łagodnie szczegółowa, a nie ostra), piękny precyzyjny i lekko ocieplony bass, fajny środek. One grają o wiele lepiej niż wiele słuchawek otwartych z top list. Przez wiele miesięcy w sklepach porównywałem słuchawki. Chciałem wydać nawet 2000 zł. I nie znalazłem w tym budżecie nic, co gra tak dobrze jak te Sony. Bierzcie i będziecie na pewno mega zadowoleni. Są dwie wady tych słuchawek: - Mosiądz pokrywa się zielonym nalotem i trzeba czyścić - Co 2-5 lat słuchawki trzeba wymienić na nowe, bo tracą swoje parametry. Ale to cecha wszystkich słuchawek. Za tą cenę i jakość - mogę wymieniać. To już 4 para tych słuchawek u mnie od 10 lat (jedną wydałem na prezent).

Ich habe die Kopfhörer seit einem halben Jahr schon und ich muss sagen, dass das Gehäuse nicht wirklich gut ist. Trotzdem fällt es mir beim betrachten kaum auf und es ist mir auch nicht so wichtig. Ich kaufe mir die Kopfhörer auch nicht um sie anzustarren und zu polieren. Ich benutze sie überall und sind daher mein täglicher Begleiter. Wenn ich mal PlayStation spiele, benutze ich sie als headset. Wenn ich Filme gucke oder Musik höre mit dem Handy als Kopfhörer. Die Soundquali ist genau das was ich wollte. Klare Höhen. Nicht so Basslastig, trotzdem stark. Und ganz allgemein angenehm. Der Komfort ist gut. Nicht sehr gut, weil es nervt, wenn man seinen kopf auf einen kissen legt. Aber das ist nicht wirklich schlimm, es ist halt nur gewöhnungsbedürftig. Stabilität: Super! Eines meiner Hauptgründe. Das Kabel ist sehr gut verarbeitet worden und das Design ist auch nicht schlecht. Mein Fazit: STABIL und SUPER SOUND Ich liebe diese Kopfhörer .

Estos auriculares los uso con mi reproductor HI-RES el FIIO M6 (que tambien me lo compre a buen precio aqui en amazon)para valer sus 60 euros tienen una calidad de sonido que me he quedado con la boca abierta (y soy exigente no me conformo con cualquier cosa eh ...)el reproductor HI-RES que yo tengo tiene el doble de potencia de volumen con su DAC llegan a 120 rayitas de volumen y suenan bastante fuerte un sonido puro y superpotente si llegar a molestar y estos auriculares sony poniendo la musica a tope durante 2 h diferentes canciones canciones calidad FLAC osea calidad maxima sin comprimir (no como la musica Mp3 que esta toda comprimida y te pierdes muchos sonidos aunque parezca que se oiga bien )bueno al lio que me enrollo NO ME DISTORSIONO PARA NADA ...ahi estuvieron aguantandome los auriculares SONY todo el tiempo q me dio la gana a tope para probarlos ....en resumen les doy un 10/10 ya me he comprado en amazon otros auriculares SONY exactamente iguales a los estos y para mi gusto es lo mejor compratelos no te van a defraudar y quedaras muy impresionante con su calidad de sonido por otra parte decir que el envio de amazon como siempre rapidisimo y muy bien protegido el paquete un 10 para amazon (mi tienda online favorita)y otro 10 para SONY y ni me paga nada amazon ni sony mal pensados soy un cliente normal como vosotros que estoy muy contento con el producto que me vendieron ...LOS RECOMIENDO AL 100% ESTOS AURICULARES ...NO BUSQUEIS MAS
