Review: Best free weights you can buy - Best free weights I've ever used. So well made and look incredible compared to other weights. Purchased a couple of sets of these over the years to increase my lifting limit. So glad these are back in stock.
Review: Recommended - Firstly these dumbbells are VERY well packaged - so don't worry about them not arriving in pristine condition. They're a very nice looking set of dumbbells and the quality is excellent. The handles and stands are real wood, however the chromed weights are covered with a plastic wood effect laminate - not real wood - but the appearance is quite realistic. They're accurately manufactured - I weighed the set and a complete dumbbell weighs 10.00kg. Each weight is exactly as stated and the handle with spinlocks is 1.50kg. The handle, for me, is slightly small in diameter and a bit slippy. Maybe because I'm used to a York knurled handle. My son prefers these wood handles so I can't complain. The only niggle is that the stands are different shades - one is light-brown and the other mid-brown. Glad they came bundled and I didn't pay full price. Overall a bit pricey but worth the cost.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can this be used to grind spices? mostly star anise, cloves, pepper corns etc. has anyone tried? what levels of success have you had?**
A: To be honest it is a little unwieldy to grind spices with any consistency however it makes a most excellent potato masher.

**Q: Are these made of solid  walnut wood rather than a veneer?**
A: The dumbbell handles have a hardwood sleeve which is nice to handle and nicely polished and smooth. The weights etc are chrome plated and their circular flat surfaces are covered in a thin vinyl layer that matches the handle.

**Q: Are there additional matching plates available for purchasing?**
A: I have looked and been unable to find any. I have looked at the ProIron websites, and they seem to make it as a set only. From the design, the 3 plates overlap so that they do not scratch each other - they would have to make either a larger or smaller plate to avoid scratching, which they do not appear to do. Shame really. Would be delighted if someone can contradict me!

**Q: Can you put more than 10kg on to one dumbbell**
A: The weights supplied for each dumbbell are 2x2.5kg, 2x1.25kg and 2x0.5kg so if you use all of the plates on one bar you have 17kg of discs plus the bar and collars which will still screw on securely two thirds of the thread, bringing the total weight to 19kg!

These dumbbells come in a very sturdy strapped box with ample corner and edge protection against droppage. They look and feel great and don't rattle as they have 'o' rings in the spinlock collars. They're hard chromed and have lacquered handle grips which can be used with bare hands and don't cause blisters or callouses like knurled bars without gloves. The stands compliment them superbly and at the time of my purchase were free when following the instructions in the dumbbell listing. I think you enter the code provided at checkout rather than add the stands to basket but it was a few months ago; maybe you do both.
