This was a very good intro for me to Celtic Spirituality
This was a very good intro for me to Celtic Spirituality. It was actually a Morning & Evening Prayer for a week. I was really hoping for a book of an assortment of Celtic prayers; so I could understand the 'lived' out Celtic spirituality.A very helpful read!

Very useful prayerbook
I've been trying to get into the habit of daily prayer, but find the standard daily offices too long, too oriented toward group use, and too bound by times of day for someone on a modern and/or unstable schedule - I don't know anyone for whom praying concerning the end of the day at early evening is really appropriate. This book was recommended to me by my spiritual advisor, and provides a liturgically grounded daily office that fits far better for me - the prayers are short without being incomplete, and work well even for someone who typically prays alone at 9am and midnight (or even noon and 2am). The language of the prayers is quite beautiful, and partakes in the Celtic tradition of having an emphasis on the goodness and beauty of *this* world; it's very grounded in actual life. I particularly like the use of the beautiful psalm 139 throughout the week, as it happens to be my favorite. I'm a high-church Episcopalian, but I don't see any reason this book would be unsuitable for Roman Catholics or low-church Episcopalians. My only complaint is that there are no prayers for Sunday - to leave out Sunday morning on the expectation that the reader will attend church instead is reasonable enough, but it would be nice to have something for Sunday evenings.

Easy to use and Beautifully written.
I really like how easy this book is to use. You can use it to guide you through daily prayer (morning and evening) from Monday thru Saturday. It assumes church service on Sunday.AND if it sounds like too much to commit to right now, then do what I do and pick up the book and find a good prayer to when you can. And the prayers are very thoughtful and comforting. They are also easy to add in someone else’s name where it says “I” or “me” so you can pray for others.Monday - Justice & PeaceTuesday - Prayers for HealingWednesday- The Goodness of CreationThursday - Commitment to ChristFriday - The Communion of Heaven and EarthSaturday - Welcome and HospitalityIt also includes a calendar of suggested Psalms and Gospel readings.

Ancient words, ever true…
Though sheltered on our side kitchen patio, Newell’s beautiful tome has been my early morning companion for 15 years….and it’s starting to show…today I will purchase a new copy. The old one will be hidden in a special place. Prayers for life…changing me and changing you…

Beautiful, inspiring prayer book
I purchased this little prayer book a couple of years ago on the advice of my spiritual advisor, who is a great fan of Celtic spirituality and Newell. It is beautiful, small, only one week prayer cycle - and even that abbreviated by omitting Sundays. Newell must feel that we all trot off to church and get our fill of liturgy. That's not true in all cases, for example, I am disabled and rarely get to church, reading and singing prayers on my own or with a recording. There is also the possibility of using other Celtic prayer books, which is my common practice.I do recommend this little book for slow, contemplative prayer morning and evening, a gift to God and the world.

Lovely prayers
These beautiful, simple prayers have been around hundreds of w. The Celtic font reminds me of the antiquity of these prayers. Beautiful book; beautiful prayers.
