Product Description Featuring a Different Tracklisting to the US Format, This Version Includes the Bonus Track, 'Me Inside' & the Hidden Track 'Eyore'. .co.uk The album cover of this self-titled release depicts the nine members of Slipknot in creepy masks, the dark image confirmed by the presence of a parental advisory sticker. Inside, foul language and subversive lyrics complete the picture. Yet Slipknot are no Insane Clown Posse, using hyperbole to mask a lack of talent. Slipknot's sound, while indebted to the likes of Korn, is more aggressive and creative; indeed, it's a closer kin to Slayer and death metal, yet listenable and surprisingly melodic. The common denominator among Slipknot and the late 1990s crop of neo-metal-rap bands is producer Ross Robinson (Korn, Limp Bizkit), who discovered the Iowa-bred Slipknot and signed them to his label, I Am Records. His stellar production, melded with wonderfully creepy percussive elements, a sampler, a DJ, metallic-grind guitars, and singer Corey Taylor's immense passion and wide melodic range, makes Slipknot immensely listenable. Slipknot isn't for everyone, but they provide a visceral and satisfying ride for fans of the hard stuff. --Katherine Turman

Aural Carnage
The world gets over shocks quickly, but cast your mind back to the release of Slipknot's debut and try and remember the incredible impact it made. Heavy metal riffs, fierce beats, DJ science, twisted samples, machine gun vocals and a huge helping of angst. This album achieved the near impossible task that most bands strive for, it was genuinely new and boundary pushing. If you ever just want to vent, you could do a lot worse than sticking this cd on and going ape! This music makes you want to cause havoc and smash it all up. Corey Taylor proved what an amazing talent he is, effortlessly switching between screams, growls and straight up in tune vocals. He is easily a match for any MC out there spitting those lyrics out a mile a minute. They were labelled as nihilistic which is understandable, but listen carefully, there is clearly a goal striven for, redemption. These lyrics would keep a team of psychotherapists in business for years.More than a decade has passed but this album still sounds fresh and relevant. Their subsequent releases are all worth attention but this debut is just too good to be surpassed. Essential.

Landmark!
Like another reviewer , I had worried this album might be too extreme for me. Even though I listen to alot of pretty hard metal: Fear Factory , Slayer etc. When it came out years ago I bought "Iowa" & found it just too hard , too uncompromising. I just drew the conclusion that , aside from a few songs , I'd just never be a Slipknot fan.Fast forward quite a few years & I saw "Before I forget" & "Duality" on Kerrang , bought Vol.3 , loved it , so I thought I'd revisit their back catalogue. I did'nt know what I'd make of this. I need'nt have worried , it's first class. If your a fan of Slipknot's later stuff , it's definitely worth checking this release out , to see how it all began. As another reviewer stated , when Slipknot dropped this , there really was nothing like it at the time. It is a landmark in modern metal music.
