I have always removed houseplants from the room. You would have to read the instructions, but I would be inclined not to used in cooking areas. **Q: How effective is this?** A: Not effective at all. The fleas just laugh at it. **Q: How many would i need for a 3 bed house?** A: One for each room and one for the stairs. I use these and they really do work.
