Paint Your Wagon Nostalgia
I saw ‘Paint Your Wagon’ on the big screen back in 1970. As an 8 year old I found it a bit long and fortunately for my parents the risqué elements passed well over my head! I saw the film recently on TV and I found it to be much more enjoyable than I had remembered. So much so I bought the DVD. Great singalong tunes and where else can you see Clint Eastwood singing “I Talk To The Trees”. The big #1 hit from the film was of course “Wanderin’ Star” sung in inimitable style by Lee Marvin. A great rainy Sunday afternoon DVD. Now 🎼 “Hand me down that can of beans” Enjoy!

Wanderin' Star
Musicals that can be enjoyed by the more mature family members are, realistically, hard to come by these days. I should know this as much as anyone that after a childhood of being plonked in front of the TV and made to watch ghastly Sunday afternoon romps, whilst the mother tapped her foot away, the Dad moaned and the sister - being elder - managing to escape to her room. This was before the Internet could offer anyone a safety blanket.Paint Your Wagon is rare exception though, and i'm thoroughly pleased I took the gamble of watching our old VHS that was found under the bed. In fact, I was that made up by the experience that I ditched the VHS and bought myself a copy of this DVD which is not only anamorphic, but offers a very nice clean transfer. The soundtrack is very clean, though a bit more care could have been put into the mixing as you'll need to keep your finger on the Volume button between songs and action. All round, the film is a flashback to an era of cinema gone by the way side. The story of a little town cashing in gambling, a gold rush and 'other' laud activities is a ridiculously simple concept - quite silly, and down right funny. It never takes itself seriously, and yet has no shame in representing the Western as a colony of gents crazed when 'a' women enters their town, and whom only want to get drunk and play games on each other! But most prevalent of all, the movie is photographed without the necessity for fast camera work, CGI or an array of sub-plots.I need not mention that Lee Marvin is the star this time, for his depiction of an ageing scoundrel who has trouble keeping sober is hilariously good - literally to the point where, in Jim Carrey style, he can make you laugh just by his facial expressions and choreography. His song 'Wandering Star' is the tune that has kept many-a-man whistling or humming away (even if Marvin did only 'grunt' his way through it), though Eastwood's 'Talk To The Trees' is my own favourite. Not much else to say on this one... Its surely one of the most underrated musicals ever?

Marvin And Eastwood Strike Gold
One Of The Last Great Movie Musicals From The Late 1960s Paint Your Wagon Builds On The Tradition Of Blockbuster Musicals The Sound Of Music And My Fair Lady. Set in The Californian Gold Rush Paint Your Wagon sees superstars Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood Teaming up Together for Their one and only starring Together movie. Eastwood simply known Throughout The movie as Pardner'' Teams up with no nonsense Ben Rumson superbly played by The Great Lee Marvin as The pair set out on Their path To fame and fortune During California's Troubled Gold rush. of course This movie musical is more famous for a song That as long since out grown The movie in stardom Terms Marvin's rendition of Wand'rin Star clearly one of The many highlights featured in This movie. Though let's not forget Clint Eastwood lending his vocals To The lush evergreen song I Talk To The Trees. This musical is just bursting at The seams with outstanding songs my own personal favourite from The score being They Call The Wind Maria. Co starring Jean Seberg as The movies female lead who pulls off a couple of Great musical numbers herself Paint Your Wagon is Truly one of The last Great musicals To come out off Hollywood's Golden era. The movie here is presented in its original widescreen version while The Disc's front Dust jacket indicates That This is a foreign release The movie plays up fine with really no adjustments needed in English. while extras indicate The movies Trailer is included surprisingly I have yet To come across This. However This is really a minor omission The movie is presented here in all it's original Glory. if you have Never seen This movie all I can say you are in for a Treat. for This review it couldn't possible be any less Than five stars.

A Fantastic Film.
I watched this yesterday. It plays very well on region two. So don't be put off buying this. A fabulous film. Really enjoyed it. Its funny and fast moving. The copy I have is brilliant. Don't look at any false reviews because I always give an honest view on classic films I buy and I watch lots of classic films. Beautifully shot and a joy to watch. I was sceptical it might not play. But it did. This is one musical if you are a fan of musicals, I strongly advise you to buy and add it to your collection. Nothing wrong with my copy at all. PC. 10. 04. 2019. PS. This copy was NOT a fake one. It is the genuine article.

An excellent movie - Finally in higher definition
I saw the movie when it was originally released and enjoyed it then. It took years for a DVD release which I purchased. The Blu-ray was not available. Now there is Blu-ray and 4K. The transfer is good, the sound is high quality. The only "special feature" is 2 movie critics/industry insiders talking over while the movie plays again. They talk about some of the people, actors, director, etc. and their remembrances. Not great "special feature". The film is a good comedy with excellent songs. Some of the actors are not great singers but it is forgivable. Excellent production values. This is a favorite movie and is to be enjoyed many times.

very good western musical
Very good western musical which has it all. Drama, laughs, and songs are all there. Lee Marvin sings his big hit Wand'rin Star and even Clint Eastwood warbles a tune in between fighting over there shared wife and looking for gold. Beautiful scenery and lovely 4k transfer make this good value for money.
