Justice League: Throne of Atlantis [Blu-ray] [2015] [Region Free]

a reasonable animated film
This is a reasonably entertaining animated film, depicting the origins of Arthur Curry becoming Aquaman (a prince of Atlantis). This movie is based on the 'Throne of Atlantis' story-arc from 'The New 52' comic book series by DC Comics (written by Geoff Johns), and it serves as a sequel to the film 'Justice League: War'.The story concerns Arthur Curry discovering his true heritage, as an Atlantian, and this occurs just as Curry's villainous half-brother Prince Orm (known as Ocean Master) sets about to take over the city of Metropolis. And so Curry, now as Aquaman, joins forces with the newly formed Justice League to defend humankind from conquest. The animation is good, as is the voice acting. But I found the story to be rather weak and derivative. This movie bases itself in the 'New 52' continuity, which I'm not especially a fan of. Additionally, the characterisation of some of the Justice League members is under-developed. Of course, I'm sure that some viewers will thoroughly enjoy this film ... and if you did, then I recommend the following sequel: 'Justice League vs Teen Titans'.Overall, I'm glad I watched this film. It's fun, and well made. But there are better DC animated movies.

Solid but unspectacular
DC have knocked out some high class animated features in recent times but this isn't really one of them - it's a bit more of a by the numbers effort but is still watchable enough. If follows on from the previous film - Justice League War - which strangely/sadly has not currently been released in the UK. You can import it of course but it's not essential to have seen it to get on board with this one. As the title may suggest, this is another pop at telling the origin of Aquaman who at the beginning of this tale is merely Arthur Curry, who has been raised by his father on dry land and seems to have little or no idea of his Atlantean heritage. In the early going, a U.S. sub is attacked below seas, some missiles go missing and the Justice League are called in. This version of the team features Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Wonder Woman, Cyborg and Shazam. What follows is a brisk story of Atlantean in-fighting which inevitably spells bad news for the humans living above the seas and the League who are smack in the middle of it all. A fair amount of fighting naturally ensues, all leading to the usual grandstand, city levelling finale. Along the way, Green Lantern and Shazam bring a bit of light relief which is welcome in a relatively violent film (although not as graphic as some other recent efforts). The animation is good, the voice cast are solid enough with Nathan Fillion as GL being the standout for me although that's probably down to personal bias as much as anything else. Overall, it's decent enough but lacks the real wit or invention to make it truly memorable. Stick around for the post credits epilogue and a pretty good stack of Blu Ray extras as listed below.......Sneak peak at Batman vs RobinVillains of the Deep - 11 minute look at Black Manta and Ocean MasterScoring Atlantis - 30 minute doc on the score for the main featureNightwing and Robin - a nice little deleted scene of sorts2014 New York Comic-Con panel - 26 minute Q&AAs always these days, there's a few episodes from animated series of the past included......The Brave and The Bold - Aquamans Outrageous Adventure! The Brave and The Bold - Evil Under the Sea!Aquaman - Menace of the Black Manta and The Rampaging Reptile ManJustice League Unlimited - Far From Home

Good but no great
Good but no the best entry in the series. None of the JLA titles since Flashpoint have come close to it which is sad as most of the early JLA stuff such as Doom, New Frontier etc was fantastic. Bit tired of the anime style animation and I'm missing the original voice actors for Supes and Bats.

Great gift idea
Bought this for my partner as he is a huge fan of DC Universe and Marvel. So glad that they are making these in Bluray as that is all he collects. It was packaged well and delivered very quickly.
