thanks to this easy to read book
New nothing much about nuclear physics, until I read this book. I have a little more knowledge now on this subject. thanks to this easy to read book.

I can recommend Nuclear Physics AVSI - concise overview of a challenging field.
"(...) If an atom were enlarged to the size of a cathedral, its nucleus would be no bigger than a fly. Nonetheless, while electrons to this day appear to be basic fundamental particles, atomic nuclei are not. An atomic nucleus has a rich structure of its own. The first steps in unravelling its nature came with Rutherford and his colleagues in the early decades of the 20th century." (p. 13).I enjoy reading the a very short introduction (AVSI) series. One of the things I always wanted to know more about was nuclear physics - not enough to study it but more than what one of my teachers one said: "it's complicated". That it definitely is and what I like of the book is that because there is a limited amount of pages we move a layer at a time from atoms, electrons to quark-gluon plasma. You definitely need to have at least some understanding in chemistry and physics. Even then it remains a complicated topic and I'm happy that I learned more about it while reading this book. It's also great to see the historical context and how and why certain discoveries were made and where the next discovery might lie as well as practical applications.I can definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to know more about nuclear physics.

Poor print
Brilliant book, and interesting to read but the text on most pages is blurry and makes the actual reading of the words difficult.

Excellent overview of nuclear physics
I was looking for a brief but detailed description of nuclear physics and this little book fit the bill. I wished that I had this when I was an undergrad in EE.

Explained by god.
A book written by god himself. The best book of nuclear physics.

The big picture
This small 123 page book by Frank Close provides a light once over read on nuclear physics covering the last 100 years or so, right up to 2015. If you already know some part of the nuclear physics story this book will bring you up to date and fill you in on the big picture.
