Great little receipe book

Lots of recipes are in the other bbc slow cooker book. Book is small and so is print. For the money it is OK to give you some ideas. However, there are a lot of recipes where the slow cooker is not required. Best one in book which made me smile is for porridge. I make porridge with dates from scratch every day. Takes ten minutes in a pan. In this book you cook for 8 hours overnight and it suggests you get anyone who is up during the night to give it a stir. Priceless!

Overview: This is a lovely compact book which covers a wide range of recipes. As we mostly eat vegetarian dishes, we found this book quite useful as it contains many veggi dishes or dishes which can easily be adapted by adding extra veggies instead of meat. Below includes recipes in which stand out in the book for me and i will be trying very soon (have only just received the book today!) The review will be updated accordingly. Main recipes which i look forward to trying include: golden veggi shepherds pie; spicy spaghetti with garlic mushrooms; indian butternut squash curry; sausage and bean one pot; creamy veggi korma; sweet potato and spinach bake; and chicken, leek and parsley pies. Pudding recipes which i look forward to trying include: hot chocolate mousses; banana rice pudding with cinnamon sugar; peach fool; apple flapjack crumble; schooldays treacle sponge; blackberry queen of puddings; and roast apples with cinnamon sugar. In addition to this the book also includes extras including: summer compote; sloe mulled wine; spicy plum and tomato chutney; onion, orange and coriander confit; lemon curd; and seville orange marmalade. This review will be updated once some of the recipes have been tried.

There are some decent recipes in here,. However this book has a good portion of recipes where the book tells us to either put it under the grill, remove everything to make a sauce in the pan and even cook things in the oven. I am very disappointed, because I had disabilities in my hands and wrists and wouldnt even think of putting my 5 litre crockery pot in my oven, even if I could lift it up full of food. Disappointing, as I have cooked hundreds of meals from the good food website.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book and decided to keep it over another book I was expecting to be better; but wasn’t! Its little and very useful to me, I like a lot of the recipes It has some very classic recipes in such as spag bol, chilli, chicken pie, spiced carrot and lentil soup A must-have for the slow cooker and cooking novice Its a winner for me and its reignited my relationship with my slow cooker :D Bring on winter!
