We got this for our kitchen as our 6 month old pup has started stealing from our previous bin and he has made far too much mess. Thr plastic is quite thin and has a little bit of flex but is surprisingly tough and durable. We've nudged it round the kitchen or had the door bump into it several times and had no breaks or cracks. The pedal will open the bin 3/4 of the way, but you can lift the lid to have it open to a full 90 degrees straight up. The operation is smooth and easy and not too noisy. It does depend how quickly you stamp or release the pedal though. Best of all our 6 month sprocker puppy and 2 year old toddler have not managed to get into it.
