Watch it and make your own mind up
I'm quite annoyed with myself for listening to all the negative reviews. I'm a big fan of the Alien films and sci fi generally. But because I read a number of bad reviews on IMDB and such like, I didn't go and at see it in the cinema. My loss. Re - reading some of those reviews, I think they were venting because they wanted more of the horror / suspense element of Aliens and while there is some of that, it is not Aliens 2.1. I also don't understand all the criticism that the crew made outrageously stupid decisions. Probably the only one that really stands out for me is not wearing any kind of protective breathing apparatus when landing on an alien unexplored world. Did they never watch War of the Worlds ! 😀 But you can overthink these things - its entertainment guys.Alright the plot is not going to win any Oscar nonminations and as much as we would love it to be, it won't entering the list of cult sci-fi classics. But in my opinion it's certainly not deserving of the many negative reviews out there on the internet and delivers a nice tie in with Prometheus and the whole unfolding backdrop to the story.Watch it and make your own mind up. It actually get s a 4.5 from me.

Alien: Complete Crap
This is a lesson on how to ruin a franchise. If you thought Prometheus ruined the Alien franchise, this film will make you change your mind. I can't even list the many things that are wrong with it, without giving away spoliers.Avoid at all costs.

What Prometheus should have been!
I don't get where all the hate for this movie comes from. I also don't recognise the story flaws or stupid decisions made by the crew the other reviewers keep mentioning. In fact I found the story and script of this movie fantastic and vastly improved over Prometheus. Also the crew is much more relatable and the movie itself much better cast. Gone is Prometheus' sterile look and the new military look suits this movie extremely well. Jed Kurzel delivered a great score contrary to Streitenfeld's drab contribution to Prometheus. I had a blast watching this movie and can only hope the franchise continues like this. What a great movie!

One of the best in the Alien franchise.
I think the harsh reviews of this film are unfounded. Yes they landed on an alien planet with no quarantine protection in place. At least the crew of Prometheus kept their helmets on part way. Alien world, alien germs, kind of an obvious mistake. However, I can point out plenty of other Alien films which have a lot more to complain about.Alien 3, a film that languished in development hell and went through too many rewrites and too many suits who thought they were creative. That film ruined the franchise for me when it first came out. Later I gave it a chance on it's own merits and production value and I really like it now. I didn't hate the film I hated the killing off of Hicks and Newt from Aliens, the previous film. I've listened to one of the alternate screenplays for Alien 3 on Audible. Very good and more in line with what I wanted as a fan back then.I've seen virtually every Alien film in cinema release and have to say that Alien 3 and Alien 4 are weaker films in my humble opinion. Alien 4 I've edited out of my memory as it was such an obvious search for more money and it sucked. The xenomorph concept was crap and Ripley back from the dead was just stupid.Alien 3 was well directed, well acted and well shot. Some legendary steady cam sequences which are some of the best monster pursuit scenes in the whole franchise. As I said before, I liked it after I got over it not being what I wished for.Alien Covenant has a lot of characters who, yes, are disposable but it's done well and I am a huge fan of Ridley's artistic eye. Even just the placement of objects in a quick shot or the design of the tiniest prop or bit of tech is superb. This film shines brighter when you see it more than once. Three times was the clincher for me, as the characters are chewed up and spat out pretty quickly.Covenant has flaws, however production value, aesthetics and good actors make up for it. I really like it and recommend watching it more than once so you can properly digest it.

Enjoyed this one!
Pretty good and quite gruesome! If you aren't too knowledgeable about the order of the whole Aliens series, and about which films are part of the 'main' series and which aren't, it might be worth Googling this before you watch - we were initially confused and paused the film and look up some background information about the order of the series, which (sort of) clarified things. However, even knowing where it fits in chronologically to the overall series there are still inconguencies (e.g. differences in technology where chronologically earlier films can appear more technologically advanced than supposedly later ones) which mean you have to suspend disbelief sometimes.Well worth watching though!

Decent film, but didn't go far enough into the origins and history of the engineers
Spoiler alert. I'm a huge fan of Ridley Scott and the Alien films. I loved Prometheus despite the negative criticism. I was hoping the film would dig a little deeper into the mythology of the franchise and delve further into the history of the engineers, but instead we got the usual bit of fanfare--confused crew finding themselves in a necropolis and wondering what the hell happened. Did I mention how dumb this crew is? I mean, even a layperson would tell you to put on a helmet and some protective clothing when you go exploring on an alien planet...you know, pesky microorganisms and all. They never listen.
