Good value for an exciting introduction to chemical reactions
I spent some time looking at more comprehensive, more strictly "educational" and more expensive chemistry sets before choosing this for my 8-year old - and I'm so glad I went for this cheap option! While the wizard hat was a total flop (I couldn't make it into a hat shape), and one of the experiments is duplicated literally word-for-word, she was chuffed to bits with the goggles and it was brilliant to see an 8-year old so excited about chemical reactions - if you are into the educational side of it, a quick look online and you can explain the chemistry bits to them yourselves (the chemical compounds or lay-persons name of the substances is explained on the packets - basically, a beetroot litmus test, a baking soda volcano and oil and water not mixing).I'd recommend this as a cheap starter set to get kids curious about chemical reactions - you can always follow up with a heavy duty chemistry set the next year if it's a success!

could be better.
The kit try to be "magic" but the paper wizards hat is rubbish. The instructions provided are either the wrong ones, or incomplete. They do the same experiment in several different ways, but it's basically use red cabbage as an indicator and mix acid and alkali together to fizz. There were 2 packets of chemicals not mentioned in the instructions (zinc sulphate and Cross-linked powder, reading a review of a similar set, I think these should be used for making crystals), and the wand wasn't used, although, one of the experiments was called magic wand, but described in the test tube. (We used the wand)We had fun, but it would have been better with full instructions. I am trying to find the instructions for using the Cross-linked powder to make crystals.

Fun set.
Bought this as a birthday present for an 8 year old. It is a fun set only it lacks instructions for 2 of the ingredients. I was able to look online for one of them at least, the second I'm struggling with a bit. We did have fun with it though.
