Kaytee Lava Ledge, Shelf, Climbing Wall for Small Pets, Chinchillas, Ferrets, Rabbits, Rats, Safe to Chew, Natural Pumice Rock

Despite the recent reviews mentioning a petrol-like smell, I decided to purchase one of these for my 3 rats as a means to help keep their claws filed, as I know in the past they've been highly recommended. When mine came, it definitely did have some kind of chemical smell to it-- but it wasn't strong enough to be a concern in my opinion. That said, my parcel was left outside in the shed for a day so that may have allowed it to 'air out' a bit. Prior to the lava ledge, my rats didn't take much interest in chewing anything in the cage. They didn't seem to care for any of the wood chews I bought them. But, within less than a day from attaching this to the cage, they had nibbled all around the edge of it! It's still perfectly intact and sturdy, can handle the weight of 3 young adult rats with no problems, and it seems to be a big hit with them. I see them sitting on the ledge very often, chewing away at the pumice or using it to get into their sleeping pod. It hasn't made a huge difference to their claws in my own experience, but I imagine with constant use it it will certainly be better than nothing. Overall, I would definitely recommend the lava ledge and I will be buying another one in the future. If yours comes with a strong smell, leaving it outside (even in the packaging) for a day should help!

I purchased a couple of these Lava Ledges for my rats and have been using them for a few months now (very nibbled around the edges but still going strong). They secure tightly to the bars. I placed mine under their water bottles so they get a little pedicure each time they go for a drink! As I mentioned before, they love to chew them too. Will be buying more in a few months time and happy to recommend to others - functional and good value.

Really good

I buy these for my rats, who really love them to chew up and ruin! They use this natural pumice as a chew and I don't mind as it keeps their teeth down and in healthy condition. I don't buy these for use as a perch, but as a chew toy instead in which they are very effective, however with 3 rats they only usually last a month or two, would be beneficial if you could buy a multipack!

great for rats! they love climbing on it and chewing it. it has a smell when you first open it but goes away after you air it.

It's just a slab of pumice rock. Big, with big metal stabiliser circles. Smells weird but after a few mins it's better. I 100% recommend this. Since this is likely a cheap product to manufacture, they aren't going "cheap" with the design. You get what you expect. In fact, this exceeded my expectations. Thick, suitable for most small rodents, and if your pet is too big for it, just put two slabs together for a huge shelf. If my rats like gnawing on it, I will become a frequent customer. In fact, I will probably buy more later anyway just because it's hard finding suck sturdy cage wall shelves anywhere! 10/10

Wird bei uns so aufgehangen, dass die Ratten auf diesen Stein klettern müssen um an die Wasserflasche zu gelangen. Denke schon, dass die Krallen dadurch ein wenig abgeschliffen werden. Teilweise knabbern sie auch selten mal drann. Bequem genug, dass schonmal eine darauf schläft scheint es auch zu sein. Robust. Nur die Farbe sieht so seltsam chemisch aus.

Funziona come gradino, si può fissare in vari punti, i ratti a volte lo mordono per farsi i denti. Non gli si chiede molto altro!

Bigger than expected, and the rats seem to like using it as a perch, and sometimes as a gnawing/chew. It seems to keep their nails down a bit. GREAT VALUE @ $13. I saw them as much as $24 on other sites. I noticed someone complained about the quality, I have not found there were any concerns, seems to be the correct brand and quality Id expect.
