i love it. fat joe the rapper from my group terror squad was great in it!meaning great as a "very natural"type dude in it. love his scene with his son best.as for john l'character. wow great acting so real EACH/EVERY part to end as his boys roof scene was so correct.they were so 100% right on how his character"became"once meeting the trashy girl remember? lol played by my girl denise richardson with the white guy,etc they were right(the rooftopbx scene)with that cute friend of his forget his name but with the black cute rapper from new jersey group(Naughty By Nature Treach)the other cute guy latino forgetting his name the actor but i love how they were trying to get through to john l.character.(Even if it did not work)until it was then TOO LATE.they were telling him like it is,but he got just too big for,to listen to the one who"truly love him/carmen as the friend he always knew etc. had his best interest at heart.as the white guy?trashy white chick etc. please.they did not care for him.as they can care less if he end up dead in jail etc. that was so true. this movie is so so great. i love it so i easily give EMPIRE five ten stars easy.actually it is on now regular cable channel USA i been waiting to see it again,even though we have the DVD lolit's just a great straight up new york bronx film,he portray a sexy papi chulo so easily. love him.john is so extremely talented"underated actor"imo he should have so much more movies.yes he was pretty mean to carmen kickin her all out of his fly a--s whip lol but we all know that happens in real life etc. each day lol with some crazy papi chulo at times,as all she was doing was being honest with him but he realize later he truly need her love his mami chula. i love that.as i love him more in serious drama love crime real life stuff like EMPIRE just adore him. love him sexy cute papi chulo funny and such a great actor. to me he is a great actor in this not all films but i am a fan of very few he is one and denzel,very good actors both,and i want him with her happy in the "end"but as we all know when you live the fake type of "Street so called fame life"it shall end eventually as she said they aren't really"your boys,or your friends"etc. he was hardheaded as always when you are? it end up either two places jail or dead......as in real life.love the movie forever though in my collection i watch it with mi papito a few several times a year. good night and happy new year to all of you.as a prudent hombre know when toget out and"stay out"not stay in etc. for men like him whose not too wiseit is usually"too late"to turn back etc.but i still watch cause i am a fansiempre el john leguizamo siempre..always...adios.

Fantastic film, one of my favorites from John Leguizamo. Seller delivered on time as promised and the quality of my dvd is perfectly brand new including case it comes in.

A poor ghetto Puerto Rican kid becomes a self-made millionaire by age thirty by working the drug trade. He commands an army of men (okay a small army, but one non-the-less) of men from the hood. When he tells them to go murder someone at the risk of getting murdered or imprisoned for life, they do it. He is intelligent enough to strategically plan a highly successful attack on other high-end drug dealers without being murdered or imprisoned. He is of the caliber that if he wants to meet tomorrow with the head drug lord (think Mexican drug lords), he just has to dial a number on his cell phone & wallah! He's there the next day, doing lunch with the top banana. He's a Puerto Rican who grew up in racist New York and probably his parents did to. So along comes a young white dude who appears to be from the upper class and claims to be a highly successful investment banker. Within a few weeks he has conned this Puerto Rican drug dealer out of millions of dollars which was given to him in cash. This drug dealer deals in a cash-only business because money orders and checks are not accepted, yet he accepts a $2 million check from this alleged investment banker which he has only known for a few weeks. His girlfriend has told him that this guy can't be trusted, but he trusts him anyway. He doesn't have any type of background check done on the guy. He doesn't even confirm the guys place of employment. Would someone of his caliber be so naive and make such choices especially in this short time period? The actor who played the alleged investment banker played it as a con artist which makes the entire situation much more unbelievable. He'd be figured out in like five minutes. Con artists don't act and talk like con artists. They act like your best friend. Otherwise the film is great and has a great message.

Cool early 2000 movie about a interesting clash of a wall street white glove criminal and a typical drug dealer criminal and some drama in between.Decent action and story.Is not scarface but cool enough movie to watch.

John Leguizamo plays a hardened street hustler who is striving for more money & power past the street level. Through his girlfriend he is introduced to a wall street investor played by Peter Sarsgaard, who he believes can make his aspirations come true. In over his head, out of money, out of friends & betrayed by his wall street connection, he goes on a revenge fueled rampage to find his betrayer & get his money back & win back his friends.

One of Leguzamo's better movies where he plays a gangsta that wants to invest his money wisely but ends up getting hustled .. So he has to battle back and get what's truly his without losing his life and the one he loves in the process .. Good movie!

Sexy, gritty fast paced story of a drug dealer trying to go good...an aspect of that life we too rarely consider. I love this film...it's on my "keeper" list. If you want a look at "the life" as well as a storyline with a better swindle than "Oceans Eleven"-or twelve!-rent this film. John Leguizamo is eye candy on steroids...worth watching for that reason alone. But there are so many more. Thumbs Up!

In this 2002 gangster drama, Victor ‘Vic’ Rosa (John Leguizamo) is a drug dealer in the South Bronx who learns his ‘girl’ is pregnant and with a turf war looming, Vic is befriended by Jack (Peter Sarsgaard), an investment banker, who could offer a way out.The product details actually give too much away and destroys any suspense. From the outset this shows a strong Latino influence and its strength is that it doesn’t paint the bad guys as all bad, there’s a lot of grey here. The first third sets the characters and the background scene, so this doesn’t waste much time getting to the point. Cinematography, sets, locations and the sound are all good which creates a suitable atmosphere and this has a feel to it that is more plausible than many in the genre, especially as it tends to explain the thought processes of ‘business’ as it goes along and how attitudes can change.The single disc loads to play, scenes, bonus [making of, feature commentary, deleted scenes], languages [English/English DTS!] and subtitles [English only!]. Rated 15 this has swearing and violence from the start [including F word] and contains plenty of comments that are definitely not politically correct these days. It’s about drug dealing, so there are lots of drug references so if the topic offends, don’t watch this.Not Oscar winning stuff but it is entertaining and busts some of the old clichés with its homespun logic and philosophising. I’d like to give full marks but although there are twists, most are obvious, while the middle does sag somewhat and there are plot holes [lose a *].
