Avolusion PRO-5X Series 12TB USB 3.0 External Hard Drive for WindowsOS Desktop PC/Laptop (White) (Renewed)

First thing I checked was SMART. SMART reported 0 hours of useage, so this truely is a new drive. I am using if for external storage and it works fine on Windows 11. It has a power switch, so I shut it off between backups. Large amount of storage per dollar.

I purchased 2 of these and formatted them for Mac and started storing bunch of data on them. So far so good. For the price I am very pleased. Have not used their tech support (yet), which I why I did not give a rating for that.

By all means the large capacity of this hard drive is great, I really thought that it wouldn't have as much storage space very good speed and transfer I will add the name may not be considered in top ten list but personally I am satisfied with this product and enjoy using it

I have been using an external drive as local backup for my NAS, unfortunately that drive developed some problems after only 23,000 hours and needed to be replaced. The price of the Avolusion drive was attractive and I thought that with Amazon’s easy return process, it was worth taking the risk of trying one from this new brand. Also, I liked the fact that it could be used in the horizontal position allowing it to conveniently fit on top of my NAS (same as the failed drive, but I did add some self-adhesive rubber feet to the Avolusion to improve ventilation and stop it sliding around). Like any hard drive, before using the Avolusion, I ran a full set of tests on it. It passed an extended test (screen dump attached) during which I was impressed by how quiet it was and how cool it ran. I then ran the short test to make sure it was still OK and that was also fine (attached). I did not check read/write speeds as this was not important for my application. I then checked the drive info (attached) which shows that the drive was brand new at the start (only 24 power-on hours) and that the advertised 12 TB of data had been read during the extended test. Now for the quirk, the drive does not spin down after a period of inactivity, in fact it NEVER spins down, even if you turn off the computer and unplug the cable – the light goes off, but the drive keeps spinning. I contacted the seller to see if they had any fix for this problem; their customer service was very responsive, but they had no remedy. I did, however, figure out a work-around for the problem. I put the power supply for the Avolusion drive on a time switch and have it turn on before the scheduled weekly backup and then turn off several hours after the backup. I can do this because my NAS fortunately has a setting that allows you to automatically eject the drive at the end of the backup. Summarizing, this Avolusion hard drive is good value for backup applications, but order a digital timer at the same time as you place the order for the drive. I will update this review if the drive fails prematurely. Also, for full transparency, I should mention that the first drive sent by Amazon was DOA, but they did immediately replace it and the return process for the bad drive was completely hassle-free.

it is a little noisy but so far it is working well

Item was received Oct 28. The box and packaging looked great - no evidence of damage. The appearance of the hard drive was perfect. I'm including these details because I don't believe the item was damaged with shipping. On Oct 29, I began moving files to the drive. I continued doing this over the next couple of days. On Nov 1, the drive stopped working. I received the following message: The request failed due to a fatal device hardware error. In hopes that the message was related to a problem with my PC, I tried 3 other laptops. The error was slightly different but the experience was the same on all PCs. I cannot recover the files that are on it. Fortunately, I have the files still saved on my other devices. I'm really glad this happened before I began to trust the device. I could probably return the drive - but I don't feel comfortable doing so. The drive will not allow me to reformat or delete. I get a message The parameter is incorrect from all PCs. The drive contains tax docs, banking docs, and loads of family pictures and videos.

Nice desktop unit. great for intermittent backups. More than adequate speed and capacity. I Just switch it on and off as needed.

I received my first and plugged it in and my computer would jot recognize it. Contacted seller and they shipped a new one out quickly and code to ship first one back. Second one plugged in and appeared without any issues. Excellent bang for your buck on computer storage.

Es muy rapido, tengo varias maquinas virtuales instaladas en el y gracias a la velocidad de 7200 rpm, estas trabajan casi a una velocidad normal, no se relentizan, me encanta como trabajan mis equipos virtuales, es un poco ruidoso, pero para mi no es molesto, lo ignoro y fuera de eso es Excelente, lo recomiendo ampliamente.

Espero nunca usar la garantía de dos años, pues eso seria, quizás perder archivos, en general, estoy contento. Es una lastima que este tipo de discos mecánicos desaparezcan, los sólidos son una basura a comparación, y este caso la velocidad, podría ser perder archivos importantes.

No funcionó en ninguno de mis equipos pues no lo detectaban.
