Madeira Tour & Trail Super-Durable Map

I have been using Discovery Walking Guides (DWG) maps and guides since 2002, they are simply the best. The Madeira Tour & Trail map is made of near indestructible paper, and is kept up to date with the changing road networks of Madeira. This is necessary as Madeira’s roads have been rapidly developing due to European Union investment in new road tunnels.Discovery Walking Guides also publish two excellent walking guides to Madeira that give route summaries, ratings for effort and time, and full descriptions of how to get to the start, and back from the end of the non-circular routes. Volume 1 details Leisure trails and Volume 2 Challenging & High Altitude Trails. To supplement these two volumes, DWG provide free GPS Downloads in GPX format for the routes in both volumes. If that wasn’t enough, DWG also mark other guide books’ walking routes (Rother & Landscapes) on the Madeira Tour & Trail map.

I’ve bought many maps in my years but instantly the first thing I noticed with the DWG map is the quality. Excellent paper quality , wonderfully clear text and detail. Having just arrived in Madeira for the first time , I can’t wait to get my boots on and put my map into action.Excellent product.

The map is great in itself; it's not super durable in the same sense as the OS explorer waterproof maps are; it's much thinner than that, though it is waterproof. It has everything you need to plan walks, has useful notes on facilities in different areas, is easy to read and seems pretty accurate.Just be aware that it's too small a scale to be hugely useful navigating on the trail. I speak from experience. Fortunately most of the Levadas and trails are really obvious and marked anyway, but there were a few occasions where more detail would have been nice

I bought the Super-Durable Waterproof map because I have had them before and they stand up really well to a bit of rough handling.I Love these DWGwalking maps they are detailed, accurate and packed full of info to help you plan walks. The companies website also supplies GPS waymarks for many walks (described in related books) which can help you get the most out of the walks.This particular map is printed on both sides and at 1:40,000 scale is great for walking or cycling (with the focus on walking.Brian

I've had a few earlier editions of this great map. They keep on getting better and better - so up to date and clear details. The special material it is printed on is amazing stuff - lightweight yet waterproof and tear-proof. Highly Recommended. PS Amazon have got into a habit of mixing up maps in their picking bins so do watch out that they send you what you ordered!

This is (im told) the best walking map available for maderia. I spose weve been spoilt in the uk with the detail and accuracy of our os maps. This map is a bit inaccurate (certain roads missing in towns) . is 1:40000 scale which is a bit naf for walking. And uses a very similar icon for footpaths and streamways.... So good luck with that! What could possibly go wrong. Also youll actually see more footpath scars on google earth than are drawn on this mao which makes it unrelaible in my view (take the next left or is it the next left after that?) in summary its suppose to be thebest BUT use with caution

Just know this map will be invaluable as it has been bought to replace the older version which has given us at least 4 years service. With multiple ( in excess of10) trips to Madeira, used to navigate the roads (tom tom is usless!) and used with the 2 excellent walking books. Do not buy any other map. The old one has been out in all weather's and is still usable having never used a map case. Just wish there were more of these maps in the series.

Great map. Clear, easy to read and good detail. Very helpful when looking for walks, as we were. The best thing is....it's light, like a normal paoer map but withstands being scrunched up on your lap in the car, folded and refolded, shoved into a bag....and still looks new. Definitely recommended.
