My chickens range in size from large hens to a tiny Serana bantam. Would the feeder be suitable for them all?

Hi, yes it would be suitable but you would need 2 PestOff Rat Proof Chicken feeders. One feeder hung to the head height of the smallest chicken and the other hung to the head height of the average size chicken. I hope this helps. This feeder really does what is says on the tin!

Would this feeder stop sparrows from stealing chicken feed?

A sparrow would probably be too light to trigger closure of feeder

Do the chickens have to be trained to feed from this?

No all our chickens took to the feeders really easily and we have several different breeds.

My ladies cant get to the food ad the gaps appear to be to small, is there a way to correct this?

I have two if they are set to the correct hight they should be fine Try emptying the feeder and check its operating correct. To be honest my girls prefer one from the other but will feed out of both. Or try shaking the feeder allow some food to spill out they may then use the feeder. Forgot to ask you are using pellets
