The unit is of high quality and easy to install, but probably needs a burn in period to reach its full potential,that said it sounds very detailed and accurate with little noise from the unit. There is a audioble low frequency rumble noticeable at very high volume levels but not enough to cause any problems. I have a Rega MC phono stage which is very good but has considerable noise levels which can be heard at high volume levels. So all round the Musical Fidelity stage is a much better product with exceptional build quality! If the turntable has an earthing cable make sure this is securely connected to the Phono stage's earthing point. Your turntable should have three leads coming out of it: two phono leads (one left channel & one right channel - these are usually coloured red & white - though sometimes they are black & red) and one thin earth lead. The V90-LPS has corresponding sockets for the phono leads & a green screw connection that you use to clamp the earth lead.The kit is then self-grounding via the mains plug.There is also a switch on the back of the unit for selecting the correct cartridge type: don't forget to select it to the correct setting or you will end up with loud and distorted sound or quiet sound that completely lacks presence. I’m using this with a mid price Audio Technica turntable into a Yamaha RXV6A amp with Dali opticon and Dali sub. I was originally fairly happy with the sound of the turntable straight into the Yamahas phono input but wondered if it could be bettered. After researching I settled on this amp and ordered from Amazon thinking it was an easy return if I didn’t like it. I wasn’t expecting much to be honest and cabled up eyeing up the packaging on my table ready to send back. Wow, I’m astounded that it would make such a difference. Sound quality is superb. Stereo image has widened noticeably without losing focus. Space within the mix has opened up and the previous smearing seems to have cleared substantially. I would highly recommend this preamp.
