rOtring Compact Universal Compass | Circles up to 320 mm

When the market is flooded with poor quality goods it is lovely to find something that is better than expected. You wouldn't expect rOtoring to be any less than excellent and this compass really is just that. The four piece set comes in a well designed but flimsy case, not far away from sturdy polythene but that's the only niggle. It is supplied with sets of interchangeable points and a couple of spare 2mm diameter x 25mm long leads. One of the points is a standard and the other fine. A plastic adapter that can be fitted into either side of the compass is supplied so a pencil can be used instead of lead. Each leg of the compass has a short, adjustable end so when fully opened the ends can be angled down to provide vertical orientation of the ends. An extension that can be fitted into either leg instead of lead or points, provides about another 110mm reach and it is a trammel design with a fully adjustable traveling head that accepts points or lead. A decent length "handle" on the top makes revolving the compass when drawing, positive and accurate. Grey, black, red and chrome are an excellent combination of colours. With care, you may manage about 215 mm radius with the compass and possibly up to 315 mm with the extension. Mine was able to alter too easily when in use but tightening the two fine cross head screws has solved that minor problem. Delightful to handle and use, very well designed and well made, suitable for a wide range of work. it makes you just want to draw accurate circles and patterns. Large, very old, working hands like mine and young nimble fingers will both be able to use this lovely compass very easily.

Really happy with this set, first time buying anything from Rotring, and I'm happy it lived up to what I've heard. All of the attachments are well made, the universal pen holder is probably the cheapest feeling out of the lot, and it doesn't hold pens half as well as the official Rotring adapter. But considering this holds all types of pens and it's included in the set, it's a good substitute. One thing I will say is the slot where the attachments slot in can feel a little too loose when changing something, even when it's closed fully you just need a bit of a tug and the item will come out. However, I've used them all multiple times and not once have they come out or even slipped out of place, so it's not really that much of an issue. The spare leads are a great addition too, I was wondering if I'd have to buy a completely new separate pencil attachment at first but knowing there are others means I won't have to worry about refills for a long time. If you use compasses a lot for school or even just art like I do, I can't fault this set for overall quality and uses.

Very nice compass, with a couple of weak points: (1) It has no spare thumb screws for the pencil lead fastener. Kids inevitably fiddle and lose them, and spares don't appear to be available. Hint: an M3 nylok nut fixes this, but don't over-cook the tightening, as the fastener is only a plastic thread. (2) The cheap plastic case, though obviously intended to act as long-term storage, is very weak and both I've bought have cracked very quickly, one before I opened the package from Amazon. Not a big deal, but avoidable.

I am a designer and illustrator and needed this for a corporate identity project the set includes a universal pen adaptor rather than the former clear rapidograph one so you can use your fiber tipped technical drawing pens for circle drawing. Multi adaptable and use extendable it is a very versatile drawing instrument and came quickly saving the day for me in the production of hand finished artwork. Excellent quality of course from Rotring and order nicely fulfilled by seller

Poor quality I would like to Give 0 stars for item and customer service A big disappointment as rotring used to be good quality Plastic screw in lead housing sheared of on second use .. company won’t accept contact with customer services from uk address which is required and phone numbers don’t pick up. Messages on Facebook just get automated Reply to Say contact customer services which their website won’t let me do ! Almost £30 down The drain for a defective compass which I can’t get replaced

I have allways used ROTRING products over the years. Thinking that I would be able to use this compass with the isograph college set, I now find that the universal adapter for pens, and pencils is not threaded, so cannot fit an issograph pen for accurate work. I have to use 0.1mm pens occasionally. The propper pen is: Art. 530 140, if you can ever find one!!!

This is the best set of drawing instruments I have seen. Apart from the obvious compass and extention, it also has a ruling pen complete with removable handle extension, enabling it to be used to draw by hand or, without the handle, attach it to the compass. Both quality and delivery time first class.

It is precise and for me easy to use both with the lead supplied and with my own pens.

Habe mir den Zirkel für die Arbeit angeschafft um Kreisausschnitte für runde Einbauleuchten anzuzeichnen. Funktioniert wirklich Klasse auch bei großen Durchmessern. Zirkel mit Zubehör wird in einer stabilen Platikbox geliefert. Ich bin mit dem Produkt sehr zufrieden.

Çok memnun kaldık. Harika bir ürün. Daha fazla uç çıksa iyi olurdu.

材質とか作りとか、この値段ですから。 アダプターがちょっと安っぽくて、延長棒には装着出来ませんでした… 精度の高い図面を描くには向いてないけど、小学生が使う様なのよりはずっと良いと思います。 ロットリングと言うステータスだけは味わえるかと。

It's a mixed compass set of non interchangeable Rotring pieces. The compass itself is good, but I didn't pay extra to have an extension that doesn't attach to the compass in any way. This set is not worth the money. Maybe if the parts actually fit together it would be but in it's current state definitely not. This isn't a product that Rotring sells either, it's just a garbage mismatch of their compass pieces.
