How is it secured?** A: I fitted a couple of these window restrictors to UPVC frames. Both the cable and lock ends are secured to the frames by 2 screws (so 4 screws in total required). The screws provided are 'self-drilling' type so you just need a screwdriver to fit them into plastic frames but the instructions say you can drill 3mm pilot holes in advance if your frame is particularly hard. The screws provided look like normal crosshead screws except that the end is more like a drill bit end. I guess it really depends what your metal window frames are like - they would have to have some reasonable width to them to accommodate the length of the screws at least...hopefully someone will reply to you who has used them on metal frames! Cheers **Q: How wide do these enable you to open the windows? Would like to use so my cats can go out the window but so that a person cannot fit through.** A: About 15-20cm depending how close to the edge of the frame you fit them. **Q: In the event of a fire can the fire service still open the windows all the way?** A: there is a key which I keep on a string near the window. The key hole is on the bracket, once you unlock that the restraining cable pops out and the window is released and the window opens normally. You can see the keyhole at the top on the larger bracket. only one key so don't loose it **Q: Could you tell me if the restrictors are suitable for sliding patio windows.** A: Possibly, bearing in mind they have to be screwed into frame. The supplied screws were too long and if you aren't careful could crack your glass.
