Very effective product
The product is robust, easy to insert into the chimney without bringing down a load of soot, and with the long inflation tube is blown up easily in situ taking the shape of the chimney as it inflates and creating an airtight seal to keep heat in the room and prevent rubbish falling onto room carpets.I'm buying another for our other chimney ASAP !

Nil by mouth!
In my original review of this product, I gave it two stars because it would not retain the air properly and I returned it. I then reconsidered that it could have been that I was blowing it up manually as opposed to using a pump - the instructions warn that if blowing it up by mouth, the warm air from your breath will cool and condense and allow the balloon to collapse slightly when you first inflate it and that topping up may be required. I still suspect that I had a duff one, but having said that, I was contacted by Chimsoc immediately and they offered a replacement, so I can't fault their customer service. The replacement one arrived promptly and this time I inflated using a pump. I can report that it seems to be staying up very well and doing the job - ie reducing updraughts. I also have to say that the plastic is much thicker and of a more robust construction than other brands of chimney balloon I have purchased, so in conclusion I would say it is a good product - subject to the usual caveats about getting one that fits your chimney flue - but would recommend the pump!

Brilliant Energy Saving Device.
I bought two of these, a small one for the bedroom and a medium for the living room. These little chimsocs have been fantastic. The difference they have made is unbelievable, draughts excluded therefor warmer rooms. Totally fantastic and it couldn't be easier to install. After a while they may need inflated a little but thats not a problem. Best money ever spent!

Don't bother
I am not used to leave comments on products, and more specially bad ones. But I was so disappointed with this product which arrived with more than a week late, a very short tube which make it just impossible to inflate once placed in the fire place and with a HOLE IN it !!!! Which I've discover after multiple frustrated attempts to place the balloon and to find it completely flat after a few minutes in place. I've contacted the seller several times who did not event bother to reply to me. So I'll will say the product is a good and very simple idea as long as the company you are purchasing it from knows how to make a balloon without holes in it. Best advice, don't bother and purchase it from a better brand.

Works...sort of!
Having read the reviews and ones almost identical to this one, I was hoping it would just work for me... well, it sort of does! It didn't stay inflated as the valve doesn't really work so I closed the valve, left the inflation pipe connected, folded it once, wrapped an elastic band around it and voila, it's not gone down in 4 weeks and counting now. Now it's up, it does exactly what it says it does, so it works... sort of!

Effective and worth fitting
I have installed this and it seems to be doing the trick. It's fairly easy to install, there's no getting round the fact that you will probably be lying on your back in the fireplace to fit it, but it's ok. It's supposed to have a rounded end to let a small movement of air to stop damp build up, but I'm not sure that it worked out like that with my chimney so (as suggested in the instructions) i will place a small piece of garden hose at the side to let the air through a bit. The major draughts (felt from across the room) have definitely gone though. I would say it's worth the money.

Excellent product
I have just fitted my Chimsoc which was very easy. I used a foot-operated bike tyre pump by gaffer-taping the extension tube to the pump. When the Chimsoc arrived I realized I could have ordered the smaller size (which would have been cheaper). As my chimney opening was exactly the same size as the one quoted on the website I ordered the next size up to make sure it was a good fit, but on the leaflet which comes with the Chimsoc it says: 'Please note that all dimensions shown are chimney dimensions, and not the Chimsoc itself, which will always be slightly larger, to allow it to hod in place'. Mine holds in place beautifully - and I was grateful for the tip to use a pipe to ensure ventilation.

Blocks up a disused chimney well
After moving into a new flat, it was apparent that one of the chimneys was in desperate need of a sweep. The chimney sweep removed 4 feet of soot which had accumulated in the chimney breast. He advised to buy one of these balloons to prevent further dust and soot falling down into the room. It is very easily to inflate, however I found that it slipped quite a lot when I tried to fix it in place so had to let some air out and shove it right up the chimney and reinflate for it to slip down again. Eventually it caught onto something and is fixed in place now. So far it was kept the soot at bay, however so far I cannot fault it for blocking up a disused chimney!
