A great product, for board thickness of 12mm to 40mm inclusive
Having used the cheap and cheerful hand dowel jigs that seem to be everywhere, I wanted something more accurate and simple to use. When used correctly, this is far more accurate but you just need to familiarise yourself with the item and its uses.I made an error when drilling a row of holes on an angle joint, one of the 2 brackets that keep the distance true moved slightly as I progressed through the length of the holes which meant the last 2 were around 2mm closer to the edge than the first one which was a little frustrating. However that was totally my fault as I'd knocked the jig and hadn't checked it again so user error and not the item.My main piece of advice would be to take your time and double check before drilling. I found the instructions clear and fine for myself although a lot of others seem to find these difficult to understand. There is a youtube video explaining how to use this which can help so check that out. Some criticism people have is that they can't use this for 18mm thick boards, however this isn't true as there is an additional spacer that allows for this size as well as more other sizes. The main black bracket/spacer is for 12mm to 40mm board thickness and is in 4mm increments, the green spacer in the picture is to be used when you need to set the thickness to the incremental sizes between those 4mm sizes although this only cover 2 additional sizes within those increments (13,14, 17,18, 21, 22 etc) however there is no setting for 15, 19, 23, 27, 31, 35 or 39 mm thickness. However the board thickness I was using were actually just over 15mm, this caused me no issues. All you need to do is reference from the same edge and the location of the dowels will match up (as long as you don't mess up like I did!)For example if you're putting dowels on a lower shelf, reference off the underside of the shelf as you will naturally be doing the same for the side piece as well. On the top shelf, you'd need to reference from above this piece to provide the same spacing as the side piece.A huge positive for this jig for me is the shelf pin spacing, (32mm on centre). These have multiple uses, firstly to drill shelf pin holes using a 5mm drill which is pretty much industry standard. Secondly they can be used for door hinges. Euro style hinge plates use the same spacing so this also simplifies hinge placements and drilling.Overall opinion of this item, its really well engineered and accurate, with lots of uses. One improvement (if you could call it that) I would like to see is the inclusion of decent drill bits and stop collars, one thing I'm finding difficult is obtaining a decent quality drill collar in particular for a 5mm bit, most of these won't sit straight on a bit and can become loose when in use so you need to regularly check this. Not a criticism of the item, just something that would be nice.

Pretty good!
It takes a bit of thought when using this but I have had good results joining boards of 18mm thick melamine, mdf and irregular pallet wood. The instructions aren’t great but as long as you reference the boards from the same side you will get a good fit. Dowels provide a good strong joint and excellent alignment.Depending on the wood, the holes can get filled with saw dust after drilling so it’s useful to have a vacuum on hand.

Wolfcraft dowelling jig
Found this jig excellent for the purpose intended and is also ideal for adjustable shelf pins and mounting plates for euro style hinges.I did read other revues that noted the settings for the thickness of materials being used and that there wasn't a dedicated one for 18mm but this is not really a problem as long as you remember the orientation of the jig on the materials being joined together. I personally used the setting of 20mm as i was using 18mm mdf and if my poor maths is anything to go by means that the centre of the hole is 1mm offset. As for the settings themselves the are 12/16/20/24/28/32/36 and 40mm it would have been nice though if these settings were highlighted as the markings are hard to see on the black plastic but once set works everytime. I looked for some time for a jig that would give me accurate hole spacings of 32mm and was consider the festool lr32 system but I couldn't justify the expense, this jig is fine for small projects but maybe not suitable for mass production were speed may be needed. So the ultimate question would I recommend this product the answer would have to be yes

Dowelled joints made easy
I bought this because it handles four different drill sizes, enables dowelling of a good length with one set up and, when compared with the competition, has a good price. The design is ingenious. My concern when selecting the device was would it be accurate and robust enough to give consistently good results. My answer is a resounding yes. I have made a number of edge to edge joints using the jig without any problems. One joint required the jig to be relocated twice to cover a dowelled length of 1.5 m. I did this by eye only, without any marking, and the dowels lined up perfectly. This jig is easy to use and gives excellent results.

Perfect joints every time
This is the best tool I have bought in a long time. If you are an amateur woodworker and want professional simple jointing using dowels this is the tool to get. It's just so simple to use and so accurate. I'm busy making a set of full height cupboards all down one side of my garage and the joints are perfect. Highly recommended. Yes it's expensive for a piece of aluminium but probably more cost effective than struggling with alignment and not getting it right.
