9 US is a 8.5 UK. I am a 10 US but drop to a 9 UK/AUS (instead 9.5 UK/AUS) when buying Chelsea boots. The boots will be tight in the beginning but don't slip too much after they are broken in. If you have a high arch or wide feet you might want to consider staying with 8.5 UK and not dropping to 8 UK as I would do.
