**Q: Can this be used behind level 3 steel plates?**
A: Yes. It can be used as a trauma pad behind steel - material is thick enough to help with trauma to the body after potential hits to steel (remember: steel plates in front, foam pads behind steel).
Regarding spall protection: If you’re looking for legitimate spall protection for steel plates, there’s a few companies that make spall wraps for your plates. Tactical Scorpion makes lower cost wraps with fairly good reviews, although I haven’t tested their products.
Ebay has some good deals on spall wraps, just read reviews online about the particular wraps you plan to purchase. You could also look online at specific types of “liner sprays” that could help with spalling. Some people use truck liner spray - a few coats apparently. I haven’t tried or tested the liner sprays though.

I picked up the IDOGEAR Tactical Plates EVA Foam inserts to use in my plate carrier, and they work exactly as described. The foam is firm enough to add structure but still flexible and lightweight. I wear these along with soft bulletproof armor behind them, and they make a great filler layer that helps everything sit properly and comfortably. As a security guard working in a nightclub, I deal with a lot of close-contact situations. These inserts do a surprisingly good job absorbing impact from punches or blunt force, adding an extra cushion without adding extra bulk. They stay in place, don’t shift around, and make the whole carrier feel more balanced. If you’re looking for affordable foam plates to give your carrier shape, comfort, and a bit more impact absorption, these are a solid choice. Highly recommend for anyone in security or tactical roles.
