I have just popped my case off and it did come off quite easily and hasn't marked/damaged the case. However, I imagine given the soft texture of the case I imagine if you were to take it off repeatedly it probably would do. That being said, I personally see no reason why I would want to take it off other than to move onto replacement earbuds.
