He said you can buy them with or without the mount. However, if you are wanting a light primarily for cycling, he suggested you would be better buying a bike light rather than one of these. They are excellent torches though - we use them when walking the dog at night. I would think that using AA batteries would be detrimental to the performance of the product. The charger is very easy to use. I already own and use regularly several Canwelum LED torches and know the quality and brand well. This particular torch was chosen for his gift due to the lovely gift box the torch arrives in, as well as coming complete in the box with a rechargeable 18650 Lithium-ion battery and a convenient and good quality mains battery charger.The torch is fab! I've used it secretly for a few days now A) to make sure it worked ok and B) due to safety regulations, the battery arrived only 25% charged, so wanted to charge it up fully ready for him to be able to use it on Fathers Day when he opens it.It's a cracking torch. I was going to say 'wee torch' living in Scotland and all that, but there is nothing 'wee' about either the torch or its powerful beam. It's quite a beast of a torch when I compare it to similar sized Maglite's I own. I think one of the things that make this CREE LED torch different to a regular Maglite beam is the CREE design - curved, which works in a similar way to my Nikon Fisheye lens. You can literally see so far ahead of you on a dark and lonely country road its great. He will love using this on dog walks in the darker months with Bella and also on his bike as a very powerful headlight.He already has a similar Canwelum torch, but the zoom function works on this one in an entirely different and altogether better way. On this one you simply 'push up' the head of the torch to change the beam. It can all be done with one hand when walking/hiking/running or when cycling and its held securely in a handlebar bracket. A one thumb push up or pull down to change the focus from flood to spot is so quick and easy. You can see from flood to spot in marked increments on the barrel of the torch when you push it up.It is of course crafted from aircraft grade aluminium, I only buy torches of this type, I like a good and durable build quality and this brand delivers this. The knurled head design facilitates a superbly secure grip and the wrist strap offers further security in use.All in all a superb torch and he is going to love it. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great torch - bright and well made *by M***A on 30 November 2017* If you’re looking for a high power torch which is well made andeasy to handle then look no further. We use it for dog walks and it provides plenty of light and decent battery life (at least 3-4 hours per charge). The ability to focus the beam means you can flood a decent area or scare the bejeesus out of people hundreds of yards away. The torch is really tactical in feel - machined metal and well weighted - and I’ve no doubt of its weather resistance. The only fiddly process is having to remove the battery to charge, but that’s no big deal. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent torch *by A***R on 4 March 2016* This torch is really good and excellent price! the torch was much brighter than I expected and the battery life is really good when used with the canwelum battery's the torch can be focused on to a smaller beam or a wide angle which is very handy when it is used for a wide range of applications. The torch comes well packaged and seems to be well made and comes with a lanyard which is a bonus for me.
