The Complete Guide to Anatomy for Artists & Illustrators

The best anatomy for the artists ever written; and I have seen many of them. It helps to understand the human form as 3D. Meticulously compounded information. I haven't read the text yet, therefore can't comment on the quality of translation from German into English. Well, the drawings themselves speak volumes.

Very detailed in depth book. medical quality almost. way more information that I needed but I'm sure it'll stand me in good stead for many years to come. but difficult to get into as a self taught artist. I expect this is a university level text book.

This book goes into great detail on anatomy, with a clear focus on what matters to artists.

Just what I was looking for. Heavy tome though. But positively drooling over information inside with super illustrations Worth every penny

Bought a used one for 20£ from browns books, can’t be more satisfied with the purchase! The condition was described as acceptable, but the book is actually just like brand new. Needless to say, the edition itself is An absolute must-have for every artist.

I am a painter. This is my favourite anatomy book. And my item looks like a very new book.

TLDR Very scientific based book with doesn’t tell you how to draw things just very in depth explanations on how things work, not relating to art. No ‘how to draw this part from different angles’ or ‘how to draw this using basic shapes to start building form’ just ‘here’s every bone in the knee and 30 pages explaining exactly what these bones do when we move out knees’Where to start with this... this book is over 500 pages and weighs a ton, jam packed with information that is very overwhelming to look at from an artists point of view. Before I elaborate, I practice digital art and want to learn anatomy and haven’t ever taught myself proper anatomy, so can’t draw without reference to create poses from my head, hence why I purchased this book.It’s called the complete guide and well if you’re looking at it from a one dimensional point of view it is indeed the complete guide. However I think to go into reading this you already need to have a good amount of knowledge about anatomy. It throws you right into the deep end and all the pages read like a scientific text book without much relation to art or how to draw these things other than a lot of art history etc. It’s just a VERY in depth book on anatomy, for example there’s a whole 32 pages on the knee joint specifically and exactly how all of these bones work which for me and I imagine most other artists won’t need to know.Unless you go into this book with a very good understanding of anatomy already and want to reinforce that knowledge then this book probably isn’t for you. I expected it to start at a place that is relatively beginner friendly as it is the complete guide and I would think that it would start simple and get progressively more in depth but this isn’t the case the entire thing is extremely in depth and overwhelming if you don’t have prior knowledge.I’m sure this is what some people are looking for but if like me you’re looking to learn anatomy with little to no prior knowledge there are other books that do this in a lot more of a concise way with only the information you really need to know without the 10 pages on the toes, 30 on knees and other subjects which most artists won’t need to know about.
