Global Climate Change: A Primer

Global climate change: a primer
This is a well written, informative book on Climate Change, written by ocean and shoreline specialists from Duke University. The authors write with a clear sense of urgency regarding the subject. The basic Science about global warming is explained, but not in great depth, as the book dwells more on each of the significant impacts of climate change: warming, fires, desertification, future of ice on Earth, and especially a detailed account of the effects of rising of sealevel. A very interesting section of the book deals with the disinformation campaign organized to deny global warming. It reads like a fiction novel.

Global Climate Change
Called a primer but really a treatise, this excellent and beautiful book methodically educates on all aspects of climate change--the facts, principles and the unknowns and, as yet, unknowables. The authors also examine and critque the arguments and lies of the denier industry--who they are, who funds their lies, and the tactics used. The bibliography is a fabulous resource for continued reading. Book is a must read and due to its eye-catching cover and Mary Edna Fraser's other batik art within it is impossible not to pick up.

Erudite, beautiful, mind changing book
This is the most to the point layman reading source for knowledge of global climate change. The stunning geo batiks make easy reference for all ages, cultures to the enormity of land/sea areas described in this erudite text. It is priceless because it is on the cutting edge science, and also has some handy refutation points to give to the ones who will not take time to examine this number one critical issue facing all species.

Climate change for the nonscientist
This is a lovely book with its batik illustrations, but it's not always easy to determine the source for Pilkey's references. I would have preferred more graphs and specific citations, but for a general audience this would be a splendid beginning to learn the basics of climate change - as its name implies.

A better title might be "sub-primer"
This book does a good job of covering the very basics of climate change and would be a great resource for someone with prior knowledge on the subject. I've just discovered that this book is definitely NOT for folks who already have an advanced understanding of global ocean-climate interactions. Dr. Pilkey is VERY well respected in his field and I've met him personally. I'd encourage anyone to LISTEN to what he's saying in any one of his number of books.

Too lightweight, but I liked the pictures
I had high hopes for this book, but I found that it was in the end a bit superficial.I really liked the pictures although it is not clear what they add to the text.A much much better book on the whole climate is issue is "A Vast Machine" A Vast Machine: Computer Models, Climate Data, and the Politics of Global Warming  by Paul Edwards.

Excellent coverage of this subject
Covers all the bases regarding the basic facts, research and trends In climate change. Very readable too. Also deals effectively with the fossil fuel lobbyists. What they say, who they are and how to refute their lying ways.
