I set it on High and within one minute it heated to maximum temperature, which I would not want any hotter; I think that it might be a little bit too hot to leave it on for sleeping, since the entire mask gets hot, even over the eyeballs up to the brow and under lower eyelid area. I set the timer to 30 minutes and it turned off fine. It goes up to 60 minutes. I did not try the low or medium settings because I got used to the High heat setting since I was using it for a stye on the eyelid. The cover is of good quality material and seals nicely with velcro, which can be removed to wash the cover. The elastic band is also good, well stitched to cover, and has two adjusting buckles.
