It is USB 1 plug so could be connected to USB port or cigarette lighter style charger. This item do not have any light sensor so the brightness is the same all the time, so at the day time is fine but at night time is far too bright.

Which mini usb or usb adaptor is needed to connect it to the odb port? (it comes with a mini usb to usb cable for power only when used in gps mode).

The device itself only has a GPS system, so it can be powered directly by the USB cable in the case.
