Steven Isserlis's playing is superlative. All the discipline of his early student days when he was taught that perfect technique was merely the servant of the music, combined with his own highly developed ability to give each note its place and make every phrase speak, make for performances that would have bowled over the composers themselves!

Having heard Steven Isserlis recently in Norwich and having enjoyed several of his previous recordings I was keen to hear this. And I am thoroughly delighted...it will be played again and again...if not totally replacing an old favourite by Rostropovitch.
