What Fish

One of the best fish books I have seen in a long time
We used to have a fish tank many years ago, then stopped when we moved, and recently got back into fish keeping, so we wanted a book that was neither too technical to be unintelligible, nor too simple to be plain silly, as most of the books we looked at seem to be.This book is superb, the writer has a clear knowledge of tanks and fish, appeals to the beginner and the expert alike, and his humorous descriptions of some of the fish attributes really take the seriousness out of fishkeeping, making the specific fish more memorable when you go get them from the shop - one fish has the word BADLY listed under 'how does this fish behave', giving you an idea of the humour and truth of the writer! It's practical and down to earth, and gives you pretty much all the info you need for your new tank, and some of the pictures are amazing. This book kept us busy for many an hour and is small enough to be portable and take with you to annoy shopkeepers with! Highly reccomended.

Maybe this book has the wrong title
This is a great little book for someone starting with tropical fish and should have been titled "What fish" A beginners guide to buying tropical fish". There is little for the intermediate or experienced aquarist. I thought that some of the choices made to include a fish were a little idiosyncratic. However as a beginers book it is well worth the money. What Fish?: A Buyer's Guide to Tropical Fish

An Excellent Guide To Tropical Fish
Excellent guide to what fish will live together happily and what type of tank they prefer , Each fish in the guide is covered by a one page simple profile eg What size they grow to, What do they eat, What size tank should be kept in, What kind of water & how warm, How does it behave. Book doesn't cover every fish you may see down your local aquatics store but this is still and excellent book to have with a nice simple layout and very good photos of each fish covered.

What Fish - Buyers Guide to Tropical Fish
Useful book describing (with colour photos) lots of the more common tropical fish generally available for purchase. The book provides lots of basic but helpful information in a standard format for each fish described. I would recommend this book for anybody starting out in fishkeeping but it is also very useful as a handy reference.

Full of info
Very helpful in setting up my daughters first tank. However since then we have see fish for sale that are not in the book, but I would still buy it again as the book is full of info and perfect for the beginner.

Good book but needs an index
A good book with lots of information about the different tropical fish, their likes/dislikes and how to look after them. It would definitely benefit from an index though as you can't "look up" a specific fish without flicking through the whole book.

as you can see easily which fish you can put with others
Very handy book to give you an insight in to some of the different species of tropical fish out there. This helps take the guess work out of purchasing fish for your aquarium, as you can see easily which fish you can put with others, and which fish are going to treat your new arrivals as an all you can eat buffet. Quite detailed too, which always helps.
