I got this particular pair of lawn aerator shoes because of three things, and I'm very happy I chose these.- Metal plate on the bottom instead of just plastic.- Slightly shorter spikes instead of the usual 2" spikes.- Metal buckles instead of velcro.The metal plate and metal buckles are both for durability -- plastic just does not last as long, and velcro wears down with every use. I went with slight shorter spikes because I figured that 1/4' probably would not make much difference to the lawn, but would definitely help me move around easier and reduce my chances of falling.My lawn was slightly damp -- definitely not wet, soggy, or dry. Rain was in the forecast, so basically I had perfect conditions to aerate and then spread lawn food. I've rented an aerator before, and the hassle of borrowing a truck, going to the rental place, loading/unloading the aerator (twice), and maneuvering a heavy and noisy machine was a pain. I got great results, but I wanted a simpler solution for annual maintaintance for an already healthy lawn. These won't do the job of a aerator machine, but I expect that some aeration is better than no aeration.I was able to use these pretty easily and only fell over once -- when I forgot to consciously pick my foot upwards first before moving my leg forward. Once I got the rhythm, this was easy. I "duck walked" -- facing forward with toes pointing at about a 45 degree angle outwards. This seemed to work well in that I got a wider path each pass than keeping my toes pointed forward. Since the conditions were right, I did not get a clumpy mess of sod stuck in any of the spikes. I did have one spike bend a little when I had to cross over a walkway, but only one of the spikes bent a little, the others are perfectly fine.Overall I'm happy I chose this brand.

I like how easy it is to wear these while mowing. The only issue I had was that there is plenty of excess strap for the feet. Probably good for boots but excessive for regular new balance shoes.

No instructions provided on how to wrap the straps on to your feet and shoes. No matter which way is hooked the straps up, the items always fell off my feet. It stuck in the ground.
