Great Book

As a snooker fan of nearly 40 years, John Virgo is a name I'm very familiar with. I read a lot of autobiographies and when I saw this one, I thought it was a must read. Written in a warts and all manner, this book tells the writer's life story to date as both a professional snooker player and various other work he gained as a result of his talents. We also learn about his loves and human failings off the table, as well as his views on and dealings/friendships with other players. Recommended read about somebody who has had an interesting life.

johns snooker commentary is one of the finest in the game, giving you an honest appraisal of the players, I miss him during COVID on the bbc, his life has been turbulent, but his character and strength shone through. A great insight into his life, I for one have followed him since I first watched snooker with my Dad, during the 70’s, always thought his commentary was at its best when he was teamed up with Willie Thorne ( so sadly missed). Look forward to seeing you back soon John.

John goes through the dark side of snooker, along with the more funny times. When he talks about the politics side of the sport, I was amazed at what goes on.

It's a good book about the snooker and his life, well written and honest but I found the constant reference to horse racing and gambling boring then I'm not a gambler

I gave this book as a Christmas gift and it was an enjoyable read I'm told.
