Straightforward, clear instruction
If you want a German textbook to take you to the next stage after GCSE, then this is it. Everything is clearly explained and the exercises are useful. The only annoyance is that the accompanying CD isn't accompanying; you have to buy it separately. Books of this type in Germany come with the CD in a pouch at the back (and are no more expensive).

Quite advanced
Interesting stuff about modern Germany. Goes at a fairly cracking pace. I think if I had not studied German before, I would have found it a bit difficult.

bought for a course at city lit
In some respects prefer it to Wilkommen 1 - seems to be geared at a more adult audience. Some of the practice sessions could be longer and Grammar points are sometimes in German. Probably should review at the end of the term!!

intermediate level German course
I've only just started this and have got through lesson one. It seems fine to me, the usual mix of listening, writing, reading exercises with grammar drills. As with Willkommen 1 the material is presented in a lively and modern way. You don't feel as if you're reading something about Germany 10 years ago. There's lots of material about German history, geography, culture and politics. As I said in my review of Willkommen 1 I've nothing really to compare it with, but it seems very good, in my view at least.
