Nobody buys a pair of shoes without trying them on. Then why do millions of people enter the workforce every year without knowing anything about their chosen career or college major. This book describe dozens of careers by experienced professionals. It is an invaluable reference.I wish there had been a reference like this 25 years ago. Unfortunately, I had to learn the hard way and muddle through several terrible jobs/careers until I found my calling. This book would have short circuited that search many years earlier.

Wish I'd read this book when I was considering my career path. I literally pursued my initial career path based on glossy misconceptions of the field I was considering. While I ended up doing what I love, it was happenstance that I found my way here. Wysocki captures real experience in different types of roles and clearly outlines the pros and cons of each in the words of those with direct experience. This book can be very helpful in understanding what each type of job function really entails and how it might fit the personality and motivations of the reader. A must read for those considering their futures, folks looking for a career change, career counselors and Veterans transitioning from military service to civilian employ.

This is a very well-written and valuable resource that can be used by people of all ages! The candid responses to a wide variety of careers is extremely insightful and provide the reader the opportunity to learn and discover many elements of the occupation. I highly recommend "Careers By the People" to all high school/college students, as well as adults or anyone looking to explore careers.

Wysocki’s book Careers By the People was not only an educational read but also a fun one. I got a chance to view 101 occupations from the people that worked them as well as read about his career obstacles and thoughts what he would have done differently. Reminds me of an Eddie Money song. Also, I’ve never read a book that quotes JFK, Henry Rollins, Condi Rice and Lemmy. It’s perfect for anyone looking into careers, changing careers or in school waiting to get into the right career.

The author has done the work for you. Think about the many times in your life when your career path has begun to change, and you are clueless as to where to go for advice and guidance. This book is an encyclopedia for those who are seeking change in their lives. This could be an adult person who has been through many careers, or the college student who is just graduating and trying to figure out where to go and what to do with the wonderful degree that they have in their hands. How about the high school student who is a senior filling out there college applications, and trying to decide which degree to declare? Open up this book to your desired, or interested career and listen to the people who have been there. Their comments will shed light on to the real working world and hopefully provide you the guidance you need to make your career choice. This is a great gift for my graduating college student!
