if you wrap it, i wouldn't walk with it. basically set with foot elevated. i use mine on back an shoulders. hope this helps.

can it be frozen and then kept in a thermos bag for a day trip?

The ice pack is one of the best I have used but don’t think it will hold the cold temp all day in a thermos.

It is not cool at all until you put it in the freezer. Not sure if when it is only refrigerated how cold it gets
