Andes Camping Tent Pole Shock Cord Repair Kit, 45ft Replacement Bungee Elastic Cord

Used to replace carbon pole shock cord. In this case I had to dig out the knot of the old cord from the end of the pole as the ends are not removable. Tips: 1. Number the poles first in case they get separated. 2. Tie or sew strong thread to the old cord. 3. Make the thread at least as long as a pole. 4. Melt the ends of the cut cord to prevent fraying. 5 tie or sew the other end of the thread to the new cord. 6. Gently feed through. The new cord was slightly larger diameter but pulled through. Don't pull too hard. If the thread breaks use the wire to feed the thread back through by pushing the wire through, tying the thread to the end and pulling it back through.

Have used several cord repair kits and found this one really decent quality & easy to use, despite being on the side of a mountain in the rain 🌧 😀

The so-called 'needle' that comes with this isn't worthy of the name. It's just a coil of rather soft wire with no means of threading or attaching the cord. If you make a bend or a loop in it, it won't fit through the holes in your poles. If you want to thread shock cord through tent poles, the only tool to use is a diamond eye threader. You can get them from your local angling supplies shop. The cord that I received was double-wound onto the cardboard spool, which meant having to unwrap both ends before I could unspool enough cord to fit the length of my pole. And do be cautious if you decide to use the supplied metal washers - my experience has been that they can sever the cord at the knot when the pole is under tension (as when fitting it to the tent). This will leave you with a piece of cord that is just too short to replace in the pole, and your pole once again in pieces. I bought a pack of small round rubber washers from a hardware store and I'm hoping for better results.

Great for replying the tent poles. It’s done the job

We bought these as the elastic had completely gone in our 20 year old tent poles. The first pole was difficult to do as we were pushing the needle too hard. The others were easy once we got the technique.
