Wwe: The Destruction Of The Shield [Blu-ray]

Short doc but fantastic matches
So, for your money here you're getting a documentary on The Shield, a couple of deleted scenes and a total of 22 matches. 4 of those are exclusive to the Blu Ray version which add up to 88 minutes of bonus content on that format. The doc itself is one of those shorter presentations that WWE are routinely knocking out these days. It rattles along for 68 minutes - briefly looking at the humble beginnings and journey to the big time for each of the three Shield fellas. There's contributions from the likes of Paul Heyman, Triple H, John Laurinaitis, Daniel Bryan and notably (but briefly) Gabe Sapolsky and Les Thatcher alongside plenty of input from the main men themselves. A few clips of ROH, CZW, Dragon Gate USA and FCW are thrown in towards the early going before we focus in on WWE. It provides an interesting glimpse behind the developmental curtain even if in the latter stages it starts to feel like something of a promo for Summerslam 2014, which is where the story ends (for now). The real meat and potatoes of this release though is the matches and there's some absolutely stellar stuff here. Each one is preceded by a short intro from a Shield member and these comments are mostly interesting enough. Many of them do spoil the results and exact finishes of the bouts that follow but it's likely that most people watching will know this info already. I've included a run down of the matches for those that are interested........14/08/11 - Dean Ambrose v Seth Rollins - 15 Minute Time Limit for the FCW 15 Championship - Nice way to showcase these guys skills at the time. A good little match to start the feud with the best yet to come. Right now actually......18/09/11 - Dean Ambrose v Seth Rollins - 30 Minute Time Limit for the FCW 15 Championship - Seth rates this rather highly and it's hard to argue. Cracking stuff.05/02/12 - Dean Ambrose v Seth Rollins v Leakee - A good solid triple threat scrap with a pretty cool spot towards the end to finish things off.01/07/12 - Dean Ambrose v William Regal - This becomes more storyline than match but it's a good storyline so fair enough. On a side note, be prepared for the footage to switch to black and white when blood is shed.29/08/12 - Seth Rollins v Jinder Mahal - NXT Title - On to NXT now then and a bigger, livelier crowd makes for a great atmosphere for this satisfying, near fall packed title match.31/10/12 - Roman Reigns v CJ Parker - A modern day squash match really.16/12/12 - The Shield v Team Hell No & Ryback - TLC Match - One of the great WWE in ring debuts, a stunning spectacle where the action barely lets up for a second.19/05/13 - Dean Ambrose v Kofi Kingston - US Title - Pretty standard fare but entertaining enough.19/05/13 - Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins v Team Hell No - WWE Tag Title - This is a blast while it lasts. Could have been even better given more time.14/07/13 - Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins v The Usos - WWE Tag Title - Roman reckons this is a 5 star match. It isn't. But it is a fine PPV kickoff match that really gets the crowd pumping. Easily deserved a place on the main show.24/11/13 - The Shield & The Real Americans v The Usos, Rhodes Brothers & Rey Mysterio - Always love an old an old school 5 on 5 Survivor Series elimination match. This ones primarily aimed at getting Roman over and at this stage the plan appears to be working. Job done.23/02/14 - The Shield v The Wyatt Family - What an epic. The crowd are eating it up before they even ring the first bell and these guys don't disappoint. A fantastic, chaotic piece of work.01/06/14 - The Shield v Evolution - No Holds Barred Elimination Match - Not quite the same buzz or pace here but it still becomes an enjoyable, emphatic demolition job. One last hurrah for the boys as a team.20/06/14 - Seth Rollins v Dean Ambrose v Dolph Ziggler v Kofi Kingston v RVD v Jack Swagger - Money in the Bank Ladder Match - A thrilling, big bumping spot fest which is one of the best MITB matches in recent years.17/08/14 - Seth Rollins v Dean Ambrose - Lumberjack Match - I absolutely love this beautiful chaos. Some fantastic, inventive ways of (ab)using the Lumberjacks and my only complaint is that it's not a bit longer. Such is life.17/08/14 - Roman Reigns v Randy Orton - A slow builder that turns into something pretty good. A few tidy spots towards the end get the blood flowing.18/08/14 - Seth Rollins v Dean Ambrose - Falls Count Anywhere - The night after the lumberjack match and this is another belter between these two which is a common theme for this whole set. I've never been much of a fan of the finish though.15/09/14 - Roman Reigns v Seth Rollins - Not as memorable as other stuff on these discs but solid enough. The rest are Blu Ray exclusive.....28/08/11 - Dean Ambrose v Seth Rollins - 20 Minute Time Limit for the FCW 15 Championship - Another fine match in this series. Probably best viewed in its natural place, between the other two on this set.26/04/13 - The Undertaker v Dean Ambrose - Short but lively match which is really all about the post match beat down.16/06/13 - Roman Reigns & Seth Rollins v Randy Orton & Daniel Bryan - WWE Tag Titles - A typically electric performance from Bryan almost steals the show here. Good match.20/01/14 - Royal Rumble Match - Ok this isn't actually the full Rumble match - we join as Reigns enters at number 15 with Ambrose, Rollins and others already in there. The action is decent enough from there with Reigns booked as the star of the show. The match itself is of course more famous for the absence of Daniel Bryan and the birth of Booooootista. And that's your lot. I'd have liked more 6 man tag matches with all the boys together but never mind, what's here is pretty damn good.

High hopes and every one met
I had some concerns - after the Sting Blu Ray - that this would be solely about The Shield as a WWE trio (in other words, entirely based around the gimmick and nothing more than a few matches and vignettes. That said, it would have been no bad thing if it was. These guys looked and carried themselves like seasoned veterans since day one), so I was hugely relieved that this two disk set focuses on Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins AS Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins. At no point do the three of them appear as a unit, unless it's something WWE related of course, which makes for better viewing in my opinion because as a trio there would have been no way for them all to have equal input. The selection of matches goes beyond WWE and only goes to show that these guys were always destined for the top. A great Blu Ray that befits a great trio. One criticism is that the documentary could maybe have been a little longer, but that's being really picky and does not merit losing a star.

Brilliant
Brilliant exactly what I wanted as missed the shield years when had a brief two year gap from wwe coz couldn't watch it :( but amazing blue ray filled in all the blanks with dean Ambrose the lunatic fringe Seth Rollins the kingslayer and last but most certainly not least THE BIG DOG! leader of the shield in my eyes none other than the rocks cousin ROMAN REIGNS! Believe in The Shield
My excitement is now through the roof. With WrestleMania 31 just days away and all three Shield boys competing in their first singles matches on the WM stage, this was an easy buy for me! It arrived two days before its estimated delivery date and was in perfect condition. Can't wait to watch all seven hours of the Hounds of Justice kicking serious ass!

Great DVD
Great for any WWE/Shield fan, a fantastic collecting of their best bits before Seth Rollins betrayed them for his selfish needs. An important piece if WWE history.

Great DVD. Only disappointment is that the 1st disk ...
Great DVD. Only disappointment is that the 1st disk is the documentary that is on the Network... For just 9.99!! However the other 2 disks are stuff I've never seen. You get to see how each member started and full matches, which was great.

Good dvd
Enjoyed this very much. Just slightly confused as to it actually skips the part from raw where seth turns on the shield? I thought this was the point of the dvd? Maybe I'm wrong.
