Does the outside surface get hot with boiling?

The handle does not get hot at all. The rest of the kettle, however, gets extremely hot. Also, because of how the spout is designed, the steam is directed straight out (horizontally) instead of upwards so you need to be aware of what it's pointing at when it boils.

is the inside stainless steel? any plastic inside?

The only plastic I can see inside is the mesh filter inside the spout and the grommet seals on the level indicator. Otherwise everything looks to be metal. I cannot verify the metal is stainless steel but I have two of these kettles and they are the best I have owned - quiet, fast, easy to fill.

Is this kettle quiet when it boils?

Hi , The kettle is very smart looking but is definitely not the quietest kettle. The children complain they can't hear the television when it boils.Hope this helps.

Can you tell me whether this kettle is brilliant white.The photo looks like it has a black stripe down the front or is this just a reflection?

I bought this kettle, “Canvas White” trim, on the basis of all these people referring to “white trim”, “white parts”, “white bits”, it appears in answer to this person’s question about whether the trim is “brilliant white”. No one has actually answered this part of the question. IT IS NOT BRILLIANT WHITE. It’s a dirty sort of off-white, some might say cream, others nicotine stained white. The Amazon photos are also misleading. Some show what looks like a brilliant white trim, others (like the picture of the kettle with toaster) show the colour you will receive if you order Canvas White. What colour are artists’ canvasses? Pure white. In part misleading and certainly confusing & will have to return as a result.
