what is the internal locking screw for- do i need to do anything to it ?

I assume you are referring to the small screw in the side of the housing. This is for termination of the earth wire. Because the housing is metal you MUST use 3-core wire and terminate the earth in the switch body. Without an earth connection there is a very high risk of electric shock when switching the light on or off. 2-core wire is only suitable for use with and ALL plastic housing.

No, you will need to order the 1/2" inch entry lamp holder.

What are 'plunger contacts' ? Previous, broken fitting has screw contacts.

Plunger contacts interface with your bulb. There are screw terminals fitted for your flex.
