Russell Hobbs Compact 30L Electric Mini Oven with 2 Hotplates, Silver

Bought this for the kitchen in a property I'm renting instead of using a full size cooker. Theres definitely a technique to using it as the oven and hobs can't be on at the same time and there is no heat control with the hobs. I've found that the oven gives a more even heat if you use both the top and bottom elements with the fan rather than one element. It warms up very quickly. On the fan/both elements setting it cooks a 12"" pizza in about 18 minutes from frozen at 150 degrees. Oven chips in about 40 minutes from frozen at 150 degrees. With the lack of heat control on the hobs its a bit like cooking on a fire or barbecue where you need to take the pans off the heat to control the bubbling. I tend to cook on the small hob only and when the heat gets a bit much I put the pan half on and half off the neighbouring hob which lessens the heat. All in all it works well once you get used to it and along with a microwave I've used it to cook everything from curries to roast dinners since I bought it 10 months ago.

Really pleased it s all I need along with my airfrier, the scrap man taken electric oven now so I've got more room in the kitchen.

Overall a great little oven which we have as our only means of cooking at home (gap in the cupboards for a stand-alone cooler in our rented home is narrower than any available uk cooker so we bought this and a little shelving unit to use instead!). It takes some getting used t the ‘knack’ of cooking with this and you can’t simply use it how you would a standard domestic cooker, so it’s a matter of relearning how to cook? The hob rings can be used individually or both at the same time, but don’t have a temperature control and are simply ON or OFF. They also can’t be used at the same time as the oven or grill (this is the most frustrating feature of this mini oven as if you’ve roasted something and want to cook some veggies you have to turn the oven off?!) The oven has a temperature control from 50-220•c but this is a lie 🤔 the oven is ON or OFF and the temperature control doesn’t do anything (so it’s sits at max all the time!). The 220•c definitely isn’t that hot and is probably somewhere around 180•c. The best way to Control the cooking temperature is to move the shelves up and down inside the oven, moving the food to the top for hotter temps etc? Food also takes longer to cook that is on the cooking instructions. HOWEVER, despite all this, we have managed a full Sunday roast in it with a whole chicken and trimmings and I’ve managed to bake cakes and bread and butter pudding. You can manage to cook big family meals in it but just have to get your head around how to get the best it this little oven first? The grill is great and have no problems with that. It has 4 shelf heights inside and comes with 1 grill pan/oven tray that slides in and 1 wire rack shelf. Be aware that because it’s not very wide a lot of standard oven trays won’t fit inside. It is however deceptively deep and fits in big 30cm diameter over dishes. The inside of the oven is really easy to wipe down and the outside has a nice matte black finish. However the job rings drive me mad as they are textured on the top meaning food gets stuck in all the holes?! They also rust after cleaning, even if you thoroughly dry them immediately after? I’ve even tried proper job ring cleaner to see if it prevented this rust but it it hasn’t? It’s has a dial to control temperature (but as previously mentioned ours stay at max), a dial to choose if you want to use the grill, oven, 1 x hob ring or both hob rings. The third dial turns to the left for ‘ON’ and the right to set a timer. Be aware that this timer turns the oven off completely when it sounds and isn’t just an auditory buzzer to tell you the times up.

Although i bought this as a present i can confirm the receiver is absolutely delighted with it. He said is so easy to use and just right for his bedsit flat.

Good size and also has a grill I am updating my review on this item. Didn't realise that you can't use the hotplates and oven at the same time and the hotplates don't have any temperature control so it takes ages to boil a saucepan.

This is a great product if you don't have a cooker or it has broken down and you're fed up with microwave meals or cold food. HOWEVER, the item description doesn't tell you the following: - The hobs have no temperature control - they come on at full blast! - The mini kitchen is larger than your average microwave and could not sit on a counter under a cupboard, for example, as this would cause a fire hazard due to it being quite tall and the hobs only working on a very high heat. - There is no light in the oven to see how the food is doing inside. - You cannot have the oven and hobs on at the same time or the grill and hobs on at the same time. It's one or the other. I would recommend this mini kitchen for countertop baking, roasting or grilling small-medium items and boiling at full heat only, but only if you have the time and patience to do these one at a time if cooking multiple things for one meal. I would NOT recommend this item if you were preparing, say, a roast dinner! (If you choose not to heed this warning, prepare to have at least double the cooking time on your hands as you juggle the over-boiling vegetables and switching between cooking whatever you can fit in the oven at any one time!) I hope this review helps some people as I wish I had known these things before purchasing. I have now sourced a proper cooker though, thankfully and only use this one as a backup or when baking with my little one as I find it safer than a conventional oven due to it being countertop (which is also helpful for people who struggle to bend down). Good product cooker/oven only downside can't use hob and oven at the same time. Need to organise yourself.
