Awesome Book
Was a fan of Martin beforehand but this book is great, I've only just started to work through thr book but everything is explained perfectly and the bonus video masterclasses are a nice touch. There's at least 3 hours worth of Martin expanding on the material in the book.Just make sure you scan the qr code in the book to access all the bonus material. Totally worth it with mp3's and videos of the material to jam with and those awesome masterclasses.

Fantastic Book
An incredible insight into how the author thinks about music, and how to apply this to your own composition and improvisation. The book is full of melodic and rhythmic ideas and explains why they work in the context of the song / backing track. An essential book for anyone looking to take their playing to the next level.

Great book... shame about the transcription inaccuracies.
Overall I think this bok is fantastic. It's unique, as far as I've seen over 30 years of learning and playing guitar, in that it approaches soloing from an analytical standpoint and gives a really detailed picture of the why behind Martin's soloing. Rather than just being a lick dictionary it goes properly deep into lick and solo construction in a way that explains the creativity behind building a coherent solo across several styles of modern rock/fusion. That's something I've never seen in print before and I think it makes the book incredibly valuable to any modern rock guitarist looking to harness their creativity. The wealth of extra material available in terms of downloadable audio and video is also amazing. For the money you're getting a fully realised rock course that would cost far more if presented as one-to-one lessons, or online courses from the likes of JTC...much as I love their products. The reason I dropped one star is that I've been working through the examples with the video demos etc and I'm surprised at how many inconsistencies I've found in the transcribing of the played examples. Several times, and I've only been working through the first chapter so far, I've come across mistakes in the tabbed examples. On comparing with the video I was able to find out where the mistakes are and correct them but not everybody would be able to do that, or have the time to work out why the transcription doesn't quite make sense. An example is Lick 5 in the Melodic Hard Rock chapter (Chapter 1), where the actual lick is a repeated sequence played in 5 positions descending the fretboard, but because the transcription is incorrect it looks like a more complicated, inconsistent pattern than Martin actually plays. This isn't a huge problem if the reader has a bit of experience but it feels a little surprising that the musical examples don't seem to have been properly proof-read.Generally, I don't want that slight issue to cloud my review of an otherwise excellent book. Martin is a brilliant player and it's a very well thought-out and put together package that gives a huge amount of value for any rock soloist wanting to improve their compositional skills.
