Milescraft 1409 Track Saw Guide - Universal for 7-1/4" Circular Saws, 50" Cutting Range, 2" Depth, Aluminum

Update to post: Have had the Miles craft guide for a few months now and recently decided to swap it onto a more powerful saw, namely Metabo HPT 36v 7 1/4 (most recent model with torque boost). I was initially concerned about the zero clearance strip and whether I would need to buy another. Had zero issues swapping over to my Metabo-cuts were square after getting the saw settled in the guide. Just like with my Kobalt it glides smooth on the track, definitely recommend using a 36v/40v with the guide. The additional power output is certainly noticeable and makes long rip cuts a breeze for me. I did pick up one of their track squares since my initial buy and it has been invaluable. Makes getting everything squared up a breeze. Also highly recommend the Milescraft Track Guide Rail Mount by HuntingBuilds on Etsy - they're nice wall mounts for the tracks that make storing the tracks/clamps/square easy. Plus it's only $17/2 std mounts. I keep my clamps plus square in the track guides and have no issues storing the track using the mount. It keeps the track out of the way especially useful if you have limited room. +Added a couple pictures ---------------------------------------------------------------- I was looking at my options for either a guide system or cheapish track saw, I am more a DIYer using this for remodeling projects at my house. If I wanted a decent track saw I was looking at 3-400 + batteries/accessories, but since I already had a spare Kobalt XTR 7 1/4 saw w a couple 8Ah batteries that I could dedicate to a guide setup, I opted for a guide system and landed on the Milescraft based on my research (seemed to be the most accurate and reliable). I paid 100 for the kit, after receiving the item I found everything packaged well, each item was protected to ensure no shipping damage. Item quality is phenomenal for the price, track is solid and has held square, saw base plate also well built, nice metal construction, clamps work well and hold tight to the material. With everything unboxed, setup was simple, just follow the directions to get setup for your clearance cut. Clearance cut went fine, no issues, so I decided to make some test cuts to get a good feel for the system. Made several cuts on relatively thin material, cut was nice and smooth, no deflection or tearout on my wood. Saw glides effortlessly on the track throughout the cut, have had no issues plunging into material either. The only con (and it really isn't even a big issue at least for me), dust collection is not great - hooked up to my extractor and I will still leave a lot of saw dust on the tracks. I expected this but just wanted to throw it out there so folks know. Aside from that no cons from my POV, for 100 I have a pretty darn accurate track capable saw. I plan to mount it permanently with some epoxy to reduce the chance of it loosening and reduce the risk of introducing more play. I will be snagging one of their squares for the track though, even with that added expense still much cheaper than buying a dedicated track saw. If you are a DIYer and need something to make straight cuts or breakdown material, 💯 recommend this system. Great build quality, easy to set-up and use, and simply put it does what it's supposed to do.

This track saw guide works amazing. I was a bit hesitant since its significantly cheaper than most of the name brand ones, but it exceeded my expectations. My first cut with the guide was to trim off 3 inches from a 1.5in thick finger-jointed hardwood butcher block and the cut was extremely smooth and straight with almost no visible saw marks left on the cut face and zero burning. It felt so great I joked with my wife that ai would be leaving her for the saw. Setup was super easy, just connect the tracks and use the provided spacing tool to mount the saw to the platform. Calibration was also very simple, but does require a sacrificial board at least 4ft long to complete. The only items of note for this are: 1. Dont overtighten the set screws holding the track together. It says so in the instructions, but I tightened a bit too much which caused a very slight deflection in the aluminum on the track side. I backed them off by half a turn and there was no noticable deflection left on the track, so all good. 2. The arms used to hold the saw to the platform also feel a little insecure. When tightening the set screws, the arm starts to bend upward a bit due to the lever forces, so it doesnt feel like its getting tight, but i had no issues with the saw moving during use so I think its okay. Overall great guide, light and easy to get setup. Will likely buy the track extensions to reach 8ft.

I read the directions, and didn't have any problems setting the thing up. I would certainly recommend wearing a full face shield when cutting the plastic strip to size for your saw, or at the very least, the bigger full-coverage sort of safety glasses, not those little 'cool guy' looking ones you can get for like $1 a pair. My father sat there watching with just his reading glasses on because he's a stubborn, but I like my eyes the way they are, thanks very much. The plastic is a very hard, brittle sort of plastic and the little bits are not a pleasant feeling when they hit you. I have a small circular saw (the M12 Milwaukee) so we were not able to get all three of the hold-downs onto it because there was nowhere to clamp down the fourth one at the back of the saw on the opposite side from the blade, but three seemed enough to hold it onto the plate. It didn't feel like it was likely to come off, and we made several cuts without issue. Not too keen on the tensioning knobs; there seemed to be no sweet spot where they were 'just right' - they were either too tight or they were loose enough I don't know what the point of having them on would be. Perhaps that was just me, though. At any rate, it would be nice if it had a bag I could put everything in, but I suppose I can make one easily enough. It would also be nice if they'd make a squaring jig similar to what TSO made for the more expensive track saws...guess beggars can't be choosers, though. I'll just use a speed square, lol. Anyways, we were very happy with the straight cuts made with this thing, it is certainly worthwhile if you don't see yourself needing a 'real' (expensive) track saw but have a circular saw that will fit on it.

I'm a carpenter by trade. Have been using straight edges, clamps, measure, allow for blade distance, etc for years. It worked. And about as accurate as my day might be going at the moment. Have tried the Kreg Accucut, Rip guides, and the like. Have priced out "real" track saws, and wondered how I might justify such cost for no more than I might use them. Enter the Milescraft 1409 track saw guide. I've watched several of the "tool guys" on YouTube review it, and have used other Milescraft jigs in the past with good success. So, for just over $100, I figured it was worth a risk. First things first. Decide what, exactly, you want a track saw for. For me, I'm going to use it for breaking down sheets of plywood, trimming doors, and the like. Square cuts in other words. Dust collection isn't going to be a big deal for me as most of that type of work I will do outside anyway. I don't anticipate doing bevel cuts either, so I can work around that if the need arises. Why do I mention all of that? Well, if you want good dust collection, bevel cuts, and (something I didn't mention) plunge cuts, spend the extra money and get into a decent (if not top of the line) track saw system. Pros: Kit was shipped in a box within a box, which is important for a tool like this. Well protected. The actual box all the parts came in had Styrofoam dividers, and cushions between the tracks to protect everything from being scratched. Directions are pretty straight forward - with one exception I'll address in the cons - and easy to follow. Parts are all good quality aluminum, well machined. Tracks mount square, and the connectors that hold them together hold them nice and tight. The plate that the circular saw sits on has ample clamping and flexibility to accept either one of the two saws I have. From unboxing to assembly and calibration took me about a half hour. Follow the directions, you should have no problem with getting things right. With one exception ... Cons - Milescraft includes 4 round hard neoprene/plastic bumpers designed to take the play out of the track to saw plate play that inherently exists. Wonderful idea. And they don't include the instructions for how to install them. Glaring error, imo, and why I took off one star overall. Pretty important thing, imo, to ensure accuracy on this tool. Figuring out how to use them actually took me more time than unboxing and assembly frankly. The other issue I have with these bumpers is that they aren't thick enough to put in a staggered configuration (which I figured was the best way) because of the way the channels on the extruded aluminum tracks are designed. They only engage one side. I was on a jobsite when I assembled this so I made it work, but I think I'm going to get some washers (screws holding the bumpers in place appear long enough) and try to extend two of the bumpers down to engage the shorter side of the channel. Still, for as well thought out as this kit seemed to be, imho, they didn't think this one through completely. The other con I found on this - and kind of figured going in - is you have to decide to either dedicate a saw to it and leave the plate on all the time, or come up with a way to attach a stop so that you don't have to re-calibrate any time you remove the saw. There is a stop for the front of the saw, and the back of the saw, but not one for the inside of your plate (left to right adjustment, iow). Having read other reviews and watching video reviews, I already knew that though. It is worth reiterating. One other thing, only right hand cut saws will work on this set-up. Use - Having assembled and calibrated, I was ready to cut. I would suggest (and the directions suggest it as well) to make a practice cut with it before you jump right in and make your dimensional cuts. This thing is accurate if you follow the directions and take care to make sure everything is tuned before you put it to work. I was using it on white melamine shelving material (slick surface stuff) and the few cuts I made as tests to see how well the rubber on the tracks held it in place did well. The included clamps (proprietary to Milescraft's track, btw, don't know how well - or if - dovetail style clamps would work) slide easily in the track slots and were easy to use. I set the track down on my line, and the cut landed right where it's supposed to. Can't ask for much better than that. I had a 24T framing blade in my saw, and there was minimal to zero tearout on the melamine - which is a big deal, melamine tears out easily in my experience. I have no doubt this will work well on plywood, or wider hardwood dimensional lumber in like fashion. Overall - Impressed. I will be ordering the 1408 extender tracks to rip 8' sheets of ply. The connectors hold the track pieces tightly, and squarely. Since I own multiple saws already, I can dedicate one of them to this plate and set it up so I can remove if necessary and put back in place quickly - with some modification. Everything you need comes with the kit. Great value, imo. I figure with the extenders, a few mods, and the fact I already have two saws, I'm into a track saw setup for right at $200. For a frugal pro like myself that's a good deal. This kit is perfect for the avid DIYer who doesn't want to spend $400+ on the Big Boy brands. As with any tool, just make sure you tune it before using it.

Has worked well for me. I'm using my old 7 1/4" Skilsaw for breaking down sheet goods. If you need to rip a full 8 ft piece of plywood/mdf I'd suggest also buying the additional track as I did. Each section is easily attached to each other using provided hardware. Configuring the track mount for your circular saw is likewise easy, and instructions are included. I did not want to spend hundreds of dollars on a tracksaw as I'm a hobbyist woodworker. But I think this kit will served you well if you are like minded.

This is the first track saw guide I have purchased. It works very well. Easy to assemble. Getting the saw aligned took a like effort and I had to re adjust it on the first cut, but after that it has been rock solid. The only con I have is that the track is only 48 inches. I was expecting a 96 inch track but that's might just be my expectation. It was easy to use once assembled and aligned properly. Smooth action across the cut. Light weight overall. Only other minor complaint is that the anchor clams only lock on the ends of the track. Using then for short cuts you cannot lock them into tje track grooves.

I own a Milescraft circular jig for my router to cut large circles for my wood projects. The quality and ease of use of that tool prompted me to take a chance on their Track Saw guide. I was not in a position to spend over $600 for a dedicated track saw from one of the big manufactures so I opted for the Miles craft unit for under a $100. It turned out to be an excellent purchase. Packaging was superb and the item arrived in excellent condition. The guide is constructed of high quality aluminum and comes with all parts to fit my Porter Cable saw. Instructions are clear cut and made assembly easy. I did have an issue with the track alignment which necessitated a contact with customer service. I received a response within a few hours and they quickly resolved my problem. Customer service from MilesCraft is outstanding as is the quality of this tool. I highly recommend this to anybody who is on a budget and wants a quality track saw. While it doesn't have the plunge capability of the competition, it does an excellent job for its intended purpose while saving you hundreds of dollars. And if you have any questions on the unit, their customer service is quick to react to solve any questions or issues you may have.

This track easily fit and adapted to my older Ryobi corded circular saw with ease, making for incredibly clean smooth cuts. When compared to track-saw kits costing $500 or more this was a no brainer. The track has held up well through a hardwood stair install involving hundreds of separate cuts, both long and short. If I had a spare $600 in the track-saw budget this month I might have spent more money, but probably gotten the same result. This track-saw kit is probably one of the best, most time saving, most consequential home improvement purchases I've ever made. It's cheap, relative to the price of a new track-saw, and doesn't take much space at all when broken down. It's also much safer than my table saw, just based on the design. It only takes a few minutes to set up and take down as well. I'd buy it all over again if I had to. Highest recommendation.

This is a great alternative to purchasing a dedicated track saw. I have tested it with both my corded 7" DeWalt and a cordless 6" to summarize my feedback over the span of over 100 cuts: Pros: + The rails are easy to connect and align before using the provided blade alignment plate to place your circular saw onto the base. + The tracks are straight and sturdy enough. + The tracks are grippy to prevent sliding on the material being cut. + Included clamps are a big bonus but not always necessary to use. + Overall great build quality and attractive price-point. Cons: - Not a fault of the product but in most cases (with most circ saws), you can't expect dust collection as with a dedicated track saw. - Both the saw cradle and track have a few sharp edges, careful when transporting not to scratch or dent your walls/car. - While the guide bushings are advertised as an optional feature, I highly recommend installing them regardless; it will greatly improve cut accuracy when you are maxing out the span of your rails, otherwise the saw cradle can wander off course every so slightly - Connecting more than two rails at a time introduces a bit of flex, use more caution when handling and transporting them. A longer, optional rail would be nice! - Ensuring the saw blade is parallel to the cradle can be somewhat finicky. I was aiming for maximum precision and it took a little bit of back and forth, possibly due to user error.
