Using a WDT without this accessory will result in significant loss of ground coffee. In essence, the result of using the WDT will be more uniform shot doses for a given extraction time. Importantly, I found this resolved the frustrating issue whereby the first double shot of the day always ran more freely, usually resulting in well over 36g. I had no problems with the magnets attaching this to the standard basket supplied with the Sage Barista Impress Express nor the basket supplied with the Normcore Bottomless Portafilter.
