What a game!
I totally love this game. Imagine a metroidvania, but instead of running and jumping, you're flying around and dashing and gunning the crap out of the bad guys. Graphics are top notch, controls are seamless, music is great, and the power ups are badass. It's hard though and some bosses you will just have to keep on trying until you get it. I love how your weapon feels like it packs a punch. It is very satisfying. My main gripe for this game is the load times between levels. It's as bad as or worse than a PS1 game loading up.

Great Gift
Knight Witch I got for my niece, and it was a great surprise. She loved the game. The story, the art style (sometimes she would just stop playing and sit there so she could look at the backgrounds), the characters and even started to learn and hum the music. The deluxe edition comes with a digital soundtrack. She really liked all the different options she had and how she had to make more "adult" choices that have consequences later on, so she had to think ahead. This game really made her feel "important", because of all the freedoms it gave her to choose from. The value this game offers is, in my opinion, is huge.

A very well-made game.
Not far into the game, but I’m definitely loving it so far. The Knight Witch is a metroidvania adventure game with fast-paced, shoot 'em up combat. The hand-drawn world is beautifully done. If you like Hollow Knight series, Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knight, Metroid Dread, Hyoer light Drifter, Slay the Spire, Warhammer 40,000, etc., then you’ll probably like this. Also, delivery came without any issues.

A poor attempt at combining genres
It's really sad that developers take the Hollywood approach to making games these days. That being "it's Terminator with Godzilla" or "it's Pretty Woman but LBTQ", smashing genres together to make bland, inspired movies that don't do anything well but appeal by being familiar. Now do the same with games. That's Knight Witch. "It's a Metroidvania with Bullet Hell". That's literally this game and it's not good. Why yes, who doesn't love dodging tons of bullets in tight twisting corridors that weren't made for them. Lots of useless exposition to slow the game down too. The worst part is the unintuitive ability/card system.Total pass.

Shoot ‘em up Adventure.
Graphics are nice and smooth. The first boss gives me vibes from the anime movie Castle In The Sky. Happy to have it in my Collection.. it came with a soundtrack code and a set of art cards. Very nice.

An Overall Mess of A Game
I’ll start by saying The Witch Knight isn’t a bad game, however, it isn’t great either. The best thing about it is the visuals, which were clearly heavily invested in. That said the look overpowers and gets in the way of the gameplay and level design. There is lots of environmental fluff and no strong metrics around player and layout. There’s no rules for what size breakable walls or invisible paths could be, leading to a frustrating exploration experience. The witch’s movement only adds to this frustration, as it’s easy to get caught on lips and ledges while trying to escape enemy fire. Movement is sluggish and slow, with no equivalent “run” mechanic to move faster through previously trodden areas, or when trying to get back to an ambush room for the 10th + time. The battles throughout are a roller-coaster of difficulty. The game doesn’t build a power curve for players to ramp up to. One fight will seem easy, then the next overwhelmingly difficult. The final boss was the ultimate exercise in frustration that most players will likely never defeat. The story starts out interesting enough, but quickly devolves into long drawn-out dialogue that does nothing to further enjoyment of the game. I found myself skipping most of it just to get back to the action. There’s no real deciphering clues or secrets from dialogue as the game guides you explicitly to your next challenge. There was little in the way of backtracking. For a metroidvania, I would have expected more to explore and uncover, but honestly it was a blessing that there wasn’t much to find. Backtracking is tedious and overly unenjoyable due to the underwhelming level design and integration of mechanics as mentioned above. The music was one of the best things about the game that didn’t continually disappoint. There were a few tracks that weren’t my favorite but overall they fit the mood and tone of the game well.Unless you have time and money to waste, there are definitely much better games to play.
